Thomas Naessig Obituary

Thomas George Naessig, 81, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on July 15, 2025, after a life rich with love, laughter, and friendship. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on October 26, 1943, to the late Carl and Anne Naessig, Tom was a man who knew how to make people feel welcome, whether at his home or in his heart. After graduating from James W. Caughlin High School and attending Wilkes University, Tom honorably served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps, stationed both stateside and in Germany. Upon completion of his military service Tom began his career in telecommunications with Bell Telephone, Bell of Pennsylvania, Verizon, and AT&T spanned decades, leaving a lasting mark on the industry before his final retirement in 2002. In 1972, Tom and his beloved wife of 36 years, Marilyn Flynn Naessig, moved from the Wyoming Valley to the Poconos, settling in Stroudsburg. There, they raised their family and built a life centered around community. Tom was an active and devoted member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Bell Pioneers, and the Burnley Workshop. His commitment to serving others was a testament to his kind and generous spirit. Tom's greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends. He was famous for his legendary parties and his love of entertaining, especially when his children and grandchildren came to visit. His cooking-particularly his hors d'oeuvres-was always a fan favorite, but his legendary drinks were the stuff of true family lore. A man who would do anything for a friend, Tom's home was a place of warmth, generosity, laugh out loud stories and endless fun. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha O. Naessig, whom he married on October 17, 2009; his children, Mark Naessig and his wife Heather, Kyle Naessig and his wife Cindy, and Dina Naessig; his grandchildren, Madison Naessig Goodspeed and her husband Clayton, Peyton Anne Naessig, Ian Naessig and his wife Angela and Zack Naessig; and his great-granddaughter, Murphy Goodspeed. Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn; his parents; his brother, John Naessig; and sister, Catherine Naessig. A Celebration of Life will be held at Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 9:00 AM followed by a committal services with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at 11:30AM.
