Tonja Weers

Tonja Maria (Hawkins) Weers, age 82, of Silver Springs, Florida passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025 at HCA Ocala hospital. Tonja is survived by Edward Albert Weers, her Husband of 38 years, her six children and five children by marriage, 29 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her loving and affectionate kindness to her children, extended family, and her many friends. She had an infectious smile and a kind and encouraging word for everyone she met. Born in Battle Creek Michigan, an only child, she lived with her Mother and Grandmother. Although they didn't know each other, her future husband Ed, lived on the opposite side of the same pond when they were children. In her middle school years, she traveled with her mother attending eleven different junior high schools. She settled in Costa Mesa, California with her Grandmother, to attend High School. She graduated from Costa Mesa High School in 1960. Tonja, married in 1960 and had six children, while living in Huntington Beach, California. In 1980, as a single parent, she and her three youngest children moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon. While living in Cottage Grove, she bought and ran a small restaurant named Casa Amigo. The family run business supported the family until 1985. She met Ed, the love of her life, while working in Oregon and they were married in 1986. The couple moved to Gold Beach, Oregon where they worked in a lumber mill, until Ed started driving for PST Trucking. Tonja rode along with Ed for several years, exploring the country along the way. When they tired of the road they settled in Portland Oregon where they managed properties for Public Storage. They bought a fifth-wheel and retired in 2010, setting out exploring again. They settled in Nashville Michigan, and Silver Springs Florida. They split their time between Michigan and Florida, following the weather. They eventually settled permanently in Silver Springs, at Tall Timbers Park in 2012. A celebration of life service will take place at the Tall Timbers Clubhouse on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
