Robert Weers Obituary

Robert Weers

October 22, 1937 - August 26, 2025

Robert Henry Weers, 87, passed away on August 26, 2025, at Gardenside Long-Term Care in Fairbury. He was born on October 22, 1937, in rural Diller, Nebraska. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Diller, Nebraska. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Diller Public School in 1955. Robert was in the National Guard Army Division from 1960 to 1966, where he was a sergeant and an expert marksman. He married Angeline "Angie" Joyce Frerichs on April 18, 1965. To this union two sons, Brian and Darin, were born. Just after high school he farmed with his dad, Martin Weers, and brother, Ronald Weers. Other jobs consisted of being on a custom combining crew, hauling seed corn for Barr Grain in Aurora, and a winter job with Alfred DeBoer at International Harvester in Chicago. Robert and Angie enjoyed owning a pasture with Alfred and Judy DeBoer. Each owned their own cow/calf pairs. Later, he joined Roger Kisling, Dale Schroeder, and other shareholders and started Red Apple Pork in Plymouth. As time went on, he gained two-thirds interest in the 650 sow unit with his sons. After retiring from the hog business, he had a stint of trucking with his sons. He continued to farm alongside Brian and Darin, running grain cart up until 5 years ago. In reality, Robert never retired from farming.

Robert is survived by son, Brian and wife Kendra Kay of Diller; granddaughters, Brianna Weers and fiance Lyndon Salz of Lincoln, Joely Weers of Diller. Son, Darin and wife Kendra of Diller; granddaughter, Neleigh (Weers) Petersen and husband Dalton of Endicott, grandson, Esdon Weers and fiance Ava Krahulik of Diller, granddaughter, Myleigh Weers of Diller.
