David Marshall Obituary

David Marshall, 82, of Arden, North Carolina passed away on April 18, 2025. A man who never met a stranger, Dave filled his life with family, friendship, and a contagious smile that brightened the lives of all who knew him. Born and raised in Newton, Iowa-the hometown of Maytag-Dave began his professional journey selling appliances for the company that defined his hometown. When assigned to Western North Carolina, he fell in love with the region and made it his permanent home. His second career involved selling high-end windows to contractors and architects, and he became well-known for his exceptional commitment to customer satisfaction. His retired part-time career was driving Land Rovers to their new owners after purchase or service and loved the adventure of driving across creeks or mountains and would relate stories of the grateful people and pets he met when he arrived. In 1973, Dave met Patricia at Asheville's Young Carolinian Club. After a five-year courtship, they married in 1978 and built 46 wonderful years together. They created their dream home in Arden, where Dave indulged Patricia's taste in many things, including wormy chestnut cabinets that most woodworkers refused to touch for fear of tearing up their planer. Their home remains a testament to Dave's love of, well, anything Patricia did. Dave's passions were as vibrant as his personality. He had an affinity for hot rod cars and owned a Chris-Craft boat. He enjoyed working in his yard and had an appreciation for firearms. He was passionate about his (ok, Patricia's) pup, Josie, who never wanted for anything. He is survived by his four children: Darby Zaremba, Wendy Marshall, David Russell, and Tim Russell; and five grandchildren: Jared, Nicole, Sophia, Regan, and Lane and one great grandchild: Lincoln.. Dave Marshall's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his warmth, generosity, and perpetual smile. If you knew Dave, you can probably hear his laugh in your head. In his honor and in lieu of flowers, please share that sort of true joy with someone today. Dave was cremated per his wishes and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. I´ll miss seeing my neighbor, Dave walking his and Pat´s dog Josie and driving by with her hanging out the window while she sat in his lap. He was a kind and friendly neighbor who gave gentle advice and enjoyed talking about "man stuff" with my husband. Our deep condolences go out to his kind and beautiful wife, Pat and their family.

Dave was my next door neighbor. We had many chats about goings on in the neighborhood and he was always helpful giving me good advice on projects that I had going on. Dave always had a ready smile that was a very welcome sight. I will surely miss you, David.
