James Simpson Obituary

A Bloomfield resident, Mr. James Cannon "Jim" Simpson, age 87, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born August 15, 1938 in Bloomfield to the late Byron R. And Eleanor Simpson. Jim was a retired employee of Four Roses and Seagram's Distillery, was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he served in the choir, and also served in the National Guard. He loved hunting, fishing and riding horses. Jim enjoyed sports and loved watching his grandchildren play basketball, softball and baseball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Catherine Spears and June Cannon, and a brother, Billy Simpson.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Stevens Simpson, his son, James Cannon (Amy) Simpson, Jr. of Bardstown, 3 sisters, Sister Grace OSU Of Mt. St. Joseph, Martha Wolf of Elizabethtown, Elizabeth Simpson of Bloomfield, 3 brothers, Bryon R. Simpson II of Louisville, Pat Simpson of Fairfield, Mike (Ann Lindle) Simpson of Bloomfield, and 2 grandchildren, James Cannon Simpson III and Eleanor Kathleen "Nora Kate" Simpson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial Mass for James Cannon "Jim" Simpson will be 10:00 am Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Fr. Kirby Rust and Fr. Quan Nguyen will concelebrate. Visitation will be at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm. The Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I am going to miss his gigantic presence in Church every Sunday. He has left a memory for my heart to ponder. May God open the gates of heaven to him quickly.
