Joyce Fletcher White

Joyce Fletcher White, 82, of Asheville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in Asheville, NC. Born in Asheville on November 30, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Earle and Evelyn Fletcher. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a proud graduate of Enka High School and Appalachian State University. She spent her career as a librarian with the Asheville-Buncombe Library System, where she shared her love of books and learning with generations of readers. Joyce was a devoted member of Pole Creek Baptist Church, where she had been active since 1963. Her faith and gentle nature were well known to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Joseph "Wayne" White; her sons, Keith and Kevin White; and her sister, Earlene Fletcher Bryan. She is survived by her nieces, Sharon Haithcock of Richmond, VA, Gaye Wall and Monica Young; her nephews, Sam White, Eric White, Andrew White, and Bryan White; and extended family and many friends who will miss her deeply. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff at Pisgah Villas for their wonderful care during Joyce's stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pole Creek Baptist Church, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
