Virginia Crawford Obituary

Virginia "Anniece" Crawford of Asheville, NC went to be with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, September 28, 2025 at the age of 84. Anniece was lovingly referred to as "Bird" by her husband Jim and by many others who loved her. Anniece was born February 26, 1941 to Virginia Southers Kolb (d. 1999) and Lloyd John Kolb (d. 1987) in Asheville, NC. She graduated from AC Reynolds High School. During high school, she was a drum majorette and was voted best posture! In her early adult years, she worked as a cosmetologist, restaurant supervisor and later was a homemaker. She also sold Avon products and enjoyed visiting and serving the elderly. She was a devoted Christian sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. The "fruit of the Spirit" was beautifully displayed in her life! She also loved gardening, flowers, and had a magnetic, people-oriented personality. To know her was to love her! She cherished time spent with friends, family, and most anyone around her. In addition to her parents, Anniece was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim Crawford, and her sister Marilyn and husband Larry Justus. She is survived by her half-sister Kay Dolan (Don) of Canton, OH; sons Scott (Betsy) Crawford of Asheville, NC and Ryan (Gina) Crawford of Maryville, TN; grandchildren Colton and Seth Crawford of Maryville, TN; Hannah Crawford of Tampa, FL, and Mitchell Crawford of Asheville, NC; niece Melissa Erwin (Mike) of Weaverville, NC, great niece Kayla Tague and great great niece Anatalia Reyes of Lake Mary FL, great nephew Daniel Tague of Colorado Springs, CO; nephew Gary Crawford of Burnsville, NC; nephew Tim Justus (Diana Howell) of Mooresville, NC; nephew Michael Justus and great niece Alayna of Spartanburg, SC; niece Cindi Ledford (Dave) and great nephew Eli of Asheville, NC. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday October 5, 2025 at 2 PM at Newfound Baptist Church, 2605 New Leicester Hwy Leicester, NC 28748. We will meet to fellowship, reminisce and rejoice over the life of our dear Anniece. Special thanks to Annie, Anniece's devoted caregiver, who lovingly served her in the later years of her life and her wonderful next door neighbor April, who truly "loved her neighbor." Anniece loved both of these dear ladies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Awana Clubs International, P.O. Box 809, St Charles, IL 60174 or Grace Evangelical Society, P.O. We are deeply sorry for the passing of Anniece. We had known each other for over 40 years and been neighbors for close to that many. She loved people, and always had a smile on her face. She loved her boys and adored her grandchildren. She prayed for them every day. Anniece loved and cared about her neighbors, taking time to check on them to make sure they were well. She loved all her family and her church family. She loved her husband, and together they raised two fine young men. When Jim passed away, they stood by her and made sure she was well cared for. She was proud of her sons, their wives, and her grandchildren. We will all miss her. I already miss her telephone calls. If she didn't hear from me in a couple weeks, she would call to make sure we were OK. She would say, "This is Bird, what you doing? When I called her, I could hear the Gaithers singing or a preacher's sermon in the background. She loved Pastor Charles Phillips and Pastors Ralph Sexton, Sr. and Jr. She especially loved Jubilee. She always invited everyone to come to Jubilee. We had some great times together, women's retreats, working together in VBS and other church activities. She especially loved working with young people. I think that's how she ended up with the nickname "Bird."
You will miss her, and we pray God will comfort you now and in the coming months. She loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and she's with Him now. We love you all and praying for you.

She was best friend in high school and a beautiful bridesmaid in my wedding in 1958. Lots of memories of square dancing. Loved her!
