Deacon Carl Westbrooks, Sr. was born the youngest of eight children to the late Steve and Ethel Westbrooks on February 13, 1941, in Wiergate, Texas. The family later moved to Bessmay, Texas. His life's journey was one marked by unwavering faith, dedication, and a profound love for his family, friends, and community.
Deacon Westbrooks graduated from Bessmay High School and soon thereafter moved to Phoenix, Arizona, laying the foundation for a life of hard work and perseverance. His first job was at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked for three years. His career took a defining turn in 1965 when he joined Paint and Chemical Company. In 1969, he began a 33-year tenure with Transcon Trucking Company, where he became a respected employee and coworker in his field before retiring.
In March 1961, Deacon Westbrooks married Bonnie Westbrooks of Phoenix, Arizona, the love of his life. Together, they built a strong and loving family and raised five children: Lanice Davison (Raymond), Priscilla Hentley, Carl Westbrooks Jr. (Patty), Chandra Warfield (John), and Katrina Malone (Glen). The bond between Deacon Westbrooks and Bonnie Westbrooks was one of deep love and mutual respect that lasted 64 years, a testament to the strength of their commitment to each other.

Deacon Westbrooks accepted Jesus Christ into his heart at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Buena, Texas, a decision that shaped the rest of his life. After moving to Phoenix in 1959, he joined Emmanuel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Emeritus Bishop Felton King. Over the years, Deacon Westbrooks served in various roles, from Junior Deacon and Sunday School Teacher to a member of the choir and the quartet group "Voices of Wonder." His love for God and his church was unwavering.
In his later years, Deacon Westbrooks became a devoted member of Prayer Assembly Church of God in Christ, where he served with humility and joy for over 23 years under the leadership of Emeritus Edward G. Carter and Pastor Ellis Ogles, III. There, he contributed his time and energy to the church, from janitorial services to helping with the Helping Hand Ministry, and ultimately, he was appointed Chairman of the Deacons' Board. Deacon Westbrooks' favorite scripture referenced John 9:4, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work."
Deacon Westbrooks legacy is not just in his spiritual service but also in the deep love he shared with his family. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
