Charles Barth Obituary
Charles (Chuck) Anthony Barth passed into the arms of our Lord on September 5, 2025 with his loving wife, Debbie, by his side.
Chuck was born on January 1, 1955, in Bismarck, ND, the second of five children. After a brief time in Wyoming, the family settled in Billings, MT, where Chuck graduated from Billings West High School in 1973. Shortly after, he began his retail career with Osco Drug. In 1975, he was transferred to Anaconda, MT where he met the love of his life, Debbie Shellabarger. The two were married in August 1976, beginning a lifetime of adventures together.
During their 49 years of marriage, Chuck and Debbie lived in eight different states as his career took them across the country. He worked for Osco for more than 30 years before joining ULTA in 2000, where he met a diverse group of friends and colleagues from around the world.
After retiring in 2019, Chuck and Debbie visited Arizona and fell in love with the area of Rio Verde, especially the community of Tonto Verde, and ultimately decided to make one final move in 2020. Chuck had a life long passion for golf and being able to play year round made Arizona the ideal location for them. During the short 5 ½ years at Tonto Verde, he played 1,174 rounds of golf...and that only includes the two Tonto courses! He had a sharp, dry sense of humor, and you knew he liked you if he gave you a hard time. This, along with his gruff yet caring demeanor, certainly was the reason behind his affectionate nickname, "The Mayor of Tonto".
Family was everything to him. He loved his family fiercely and was loved fiercely in return. He was an outstanding husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend. He coached both of his kids' teams when they were young, and was always there to cheer them on in sports and life as they got older. His greatest pleasure was Ruby and Lola's extended visits during the summer. Their favorite activities included cruising around the golf courses (the girls would drive the carts), looking for javelinas, and eating ice cream every night.
Chuck was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in August of 2024. He fought the disease with tenacity and dignity, never complaining regardless of the treatments. He was a strong warrior.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Deborah (Shellabarger), daughter Michelle (Andy) Dailing, son Michael (Jennifer) Barth, adoring granddaughters Ruby and Lola Dailing, brother Mark (Dannette), sisters Georgine (Mike) Hoffman, JoNell Robinson, sisters-in-law Linda (Dennis) Keele, Nilda (Max) Zacher, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Benno and Kathryn, brother Bryce, and in-laws John and Rose Shellabarger.
Per his wishes, he was cremated. A Requiem Mass will be held in Naperville, IL at a later date. A celebration of life will be held in Rio Verde, AZ.
In memoriam donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix AZ 85014 602.530.6992
