Elquonar Anderson Obituary

We regret to announce the passing of Elquonar Anderson, who departed on June 28, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Mesa, Arizona, on December 27, 1941, Ms. Anderson was known for her warmth, optimism, and genuine care for others. She was a devoted parent and grandmother to five, and she was looking forward to the prospect of becoming a great-grandmother. As the last surviving sibling of her generation, Ms. Anderson leaves behind a lasting legacy. Many members of the community will remember Ms. Anderson from her years as an AVON representative, where she became affectionately known as "Ms. Ellie" throughout the village neighborhood. Her tradition of bestowing endearing nicknames upon family members is fondly remembered and cherished. Ms. Anderson is survived by her children: Quentin Wayne Jones, Alonzo C. Jones (and spouse Jolynn Sanchez-Jones), Mahala Na'Shay Garcia (and spouse Angel Garcia), and Lawrence Andrews. She was predeceased by her child Little Dove Burns Sanfuego Garcia; her parents, John L. Anderson and Margaret Militier Hicks; and siblings James Morning, Joe Lewis, Gloridene Quick, Henry Mae Anderson, and Lorene Fuller. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Anthony J. Jones, Marcella Angelys Garcia, Angelo Archilles Garcia, Lailah S. Jones, and Ellyana Dolores Garcia. A visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 10:00 a.m., both held at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N Macdonald, Mesa, AZ 85201. Graveside services will take place at Mesa City Cemetery, 1212 N Center St, Mesa, AZ 85201, at 11:30 a.m.
