Jean Murphy Obituary
Jean Frances (Kieley) Murphy passed away peacefully in Phoenix Arizona on May 5, 2025, a few months shy of her 100th birthday. She was a determined and energetic force who enjoyed every day and was an inspiration to family and friends all around her. Jean now joins her beloved John, her husband of 63 years, as they now dance through the heavens above. She is survived by her children Brenda (Glenn), Sean (Michele) and Paul (Lynette); her grandchildren Marilyn (Justin) and John (Caiti); her great grand dogs Faye, Willie & Daisy; her brother Hugh (Cathy) Kieley, Niles OH, sister Mickie (Bob) Pitcher, St. John's NL and sisters-in-law Edith Allard, Ottawa, ON and Helen Kieley, Kelligrews, NL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Margaret, Edith, Helen, William, John, Patricia, Daniel, Robert, Judith, and Brenda. She loved them all.
Born on September 4, 1925, in St John's Newfoundland, Canada, Jean moved with John to New York in 1961. Jean called Scottsdale, Arizona home for the last 45 years. She loved dogs and was a "dog whisperer" who could make any dog melt in her arms. Jean was a great baker and homemaker who lived independently on her own until this year. Jean was a voracious reader and exercised daily. She was a value shopper and always looked beautiful and could style an outfit for any occasion. She traveled extensively with John in connection with his career with TWA. She especially loved traveling with John to her beloved Newfoundland to visit with family and friends. She was a person of deep faith who supported her church in many ways. Later in life she found a calling in volunteering at the Hospice of the Valley White Dove Thrift Shop in Scottsdale. She found it to be very fulfilling and thoroughly enjoyed the staff and customers and made many new friends for life.
Special thanks to her friends Mary and Sylvia who supported her competitive gaming desires at the local casinos. As in life she was a winner. Also, the family thanks the professionals at Honor Health, Life Care Center of Scottsdale and Hospice of the Valley for the special support they provided in the last few months of Jean's life.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Scottsdale AZ, at 11 a.m. on Thursday May 29, 2025, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Jean's inurnment will be with John in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador later in the year. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Arizona Humane Society.
