Linda Abraham Obituary
Linda Jo Abraham, 83, passed away on August 25, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born to Joseph and Rena Holden (Lovett) on April 28, 1942, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the widow of James "Abe" Abraham. They shared 52 years of marriage together and had three children and one grandchild.
The Sunnyslope neighborhood in Phoenix was always home to Linda and her family. Her parents bought their first and only house in 1946 where Central Avenue runs into North Mountain (and Central Avenue was still a dirt road!). Her family attended Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in the heart of Sunnyslope and in 1956 Linda was in the first graduating class from Most Holy Trinity Catholic School. Linda taught religious education classes at the church for years and then returned to the school as a volunteer when her granddaughter attended the school almost 50 years later.
In 1960, she graduated from Sunnyslope High School. Soon after, she met and married Abe, a fellow "Viking" and admirer of her '55 Chevy Convertible. In 1965, two years after they were married, Abe and Linda bought their first and only house less than a mile from her childhood home and from the end of their street, you could see the "Friday Night Lights" of Sunnyslope High School. All three of their children would go on to graduate from Sunnyslope as well.
As a 3rd generation Arizona native, (although because she was so honest, she would confess that she was technically born in Las Vegas and lived there for 2 months before returning to Phoenix) Linda grew up camping in the White Mountains and Oak Creek Canyon and spending time at the beach in Cholla Bay and Las Conchas in Rocky Point, Mexico.
She worked as a clerk for Weight Watchers for many years and bought 100% into the program. Because of her fervent beliefs we will forever see bananas and pineapple as forbidden fruits and know that potatoes are not vegetables – they are a starch for goodness' sake!
She was active in the Beta Sigma Sorority for many years where she enjoyed socializing with spirited women and their spouses and performing philanthropic work for various charities throughout the years. Everyone knew the first event to go on the calendar each year was the Sorority Christmas Party!
She was an avid reader and engrossed herself in the plot and always connected with the characters. If you were to overhear her describing one of the characters in her book, you would have sworn she was talking about a member of the family!
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and their many friends to countries across the world. She loved cruising and enjoyed cruises through the Mediterranean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Caribbean, Hawaiian Islands, Tahiti, Alaska, the New England Coast, the Danube River and South America. And although she always enjoyed the sites and scenery, she was most excited to share stories about the interesting people they met along the way, which usually included the bus driver!
You could always count on her to bring her potato salad to the potluck, to drop you off and pick you up from practice, to be the team mom, to make chili beans when it rained, to do your laundry and set it on the end of your bed, to sing you a wake up song, and to be there when you got home from school so you could tell her what crazy things went on in the classroom that day.
She was easy-going, content, kind, generous, selfless, a good sport, and had a quiet, unexpected sense of humor that we will miss greatly.
Thank you for being a wonderful wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother – thank you for being Grammy!
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, James Abraham, parents, Joseph and Rena Holden, and brother, Joseph Holden Jr. She is survived by her three children, daughter Jayme Chapin, daughter Joey Morgan, son Jason Abraham, granddaughter Casey Holland, sister Melissa Herriage, and her beloved goldendoodle Abbey. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
