Marvin Hundertmark Obituary

Marvin (Ginger) Stewart Hundertmark was born on August 14, 1936, the eldest son of John and Charlotte Hundertmark in Boring, Maryland. He had one sister, Betty, and one brother, Gerald (Pepper). His German ancestors emigrated to America during the early half of the nineteenth century and settled in northern Baltimore County, Maryland. His family moved to Garrison, Maryland, and he attended public elementary schools. With the encouragement of his father, he was successful in passing the entrance exams and obtaining a scholarship for McDonogh, a private, semi-military boarding school. Marvin considered this experience the "passport" for his subsequent college scholarship at Johns Hopkins where he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering Sciences degree (Chemical Engineering). He spent his entire 27-year career at DuPont (1958–1985). His first assignment involved plastics processing. Later he had a number of different corporate roles and traveled to multiple parts of the world. While still in high school, he met his first wife, Beverly Walter, and they were married February 1, 1958. His first daughter, Robin, was born in 1959. His son Joseph was born in 1960 and John in 1964. The family lived in Parkersburg, West Virginia, before moving to DuPont's corporate headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. In the 1970s, he got the running bug and participated in the Boston Marathon in 1978. After retiring from DuPont, he continued to live in Delaware but spent winters in Florida and Arizona. He eventually relocated full-time to Mesa, Arizona. He was active in retirement and volunteered teaching computer and genealogy classes. He met his wife Janet Murphy in Mesa, Arizona, in 2013, and they married on January 18, 2014. They spent 11 happy years together dancing, playing cards, and being active in the Eternal Life Lutheran Church. He assisted Janet, a musician, with entertaining at nursing homes and senior centers. Marvin is survived by his wife Janet; his daughter Robin Orr (husband Craig); sons Joseph Hundertmark and John Hundertmark; and grandchildren Jonathan, Rebecca, Joey, and Joshua. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Arrangements were cared for by Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery 7900 E Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207 (480) 485-4380
