Robert Yockey Obituary

Robert ("Bob") L. Yockey, M.D, 95, was called home to his Lord and Savior on May 23, 2025. He died peacefully at his home. Bob was born in Avonmore, PA, in 1929, to Homer C. Yockey and Rebecca R. Yockey. He graduated from Avonmore High School, continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh for his undergraduate degree, and went on to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1954. While in high school, Bob met his one and only truelove, Mary. They were married in 1952 and shared almost 73 years of marital bliss together. Bob and Mary had three children; Bobbi, MaryBeth and Kris. Bob was a Captain in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged he moved with his family to Natrona Heights, PA. In the early 1960s he moved his family to Arizona, ultimately settled in Paradise Valley, and opened an Ophthalmology practice. Bob loved his profession and all of the people he treated. He was President of both the Phoenix Ophthalmological Society (1976-1977) and the Arizona Ophthalmological Society (1990-1992). Bob retired from practice in 2006. Bob loved to paint. Many of his paintings hang in the homes of his family and friends. Bob also loved to golf, fish, hunt, read, do crossword puzzles, watch sports, and most of all spend time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his daughters Bobbi (Phil) of Scottsdale, AZ and MaryBeth (Michael) of Cameron Park, CA; and his son Kris (Sandy) of Peoria, AZ; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bob will always be remembered for being extremely generous, always willing to step in and help a person in need, his exceptional medical knowledge and skills, having a great sense of humor and being the best father his family could ever hope for. ("We miss you Dad!") A Memorial will be held at the Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ on June 10, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
