Stephen Mandel

Stephen J. Mandel, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 22, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). He was 80 years old. Stephen shared a wonderful 58 years of marriage with his cherished wife, Barbara, with whom he built a life full of love, resilience, and devotion. Born in New York in 1944 to the late Rose and Nathan Mandel, Stephen grew up alongside his late brothers Newton Mandel and George Mandel, and his older sister Regina White-Chereskin, who survives him. He is survived by his loving family: wife Barbara Mandel, daughters Robin Martin and Elissa Mandel, son-in-law Gregg Martin, and his treasured grandchildren Hannah Rose Martin and Aydin Martin. Stephen was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, and "Grandpa" to others who held him close to their hearts. Stephen began his career as a teacher of Industrial Arts while also working in his mother's furniture store. He later transitioned into a successful career in IT, where his love for precision and intricate detail served him well. His artistic spirit continued to thrive in his later years through the arts-his works remained beautiful and detailed even as his health declined. He found joy in sailing with his big brother, repairing anything he could get his hands on, and volunteering for political campaigns. But above all, Stephen treasured time with his family. Becoming a grandfather was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. Stephen was strongly committed to Judaism and took pride in passing on those traditions and values to the next generation. Stephen's warm smile, endearing personality, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
