In Memoriam:
Abe Silver
A member of The Santa Fe Opera's Board of Directors since 1960, Abe Silver continued until the present as an Emeritus Director. In the intervening years, he held the Treasurer's post for three consecutive terms, served on the Board of The Santa Fe Opera Foundation, and was active in other areas of the Company. It would be difficult to find two individuals more dedicated to the advancement of Santa Fe's cultural and civic life than Abe and his beloved partner, wife Marian Silver. Among the many organizations to which they contributed their time and energy were the New Mexico Arts Commission, the Boys & Girls Clubs, the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, Temple Beth Shalom, and the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation. The two were, together or separately, volunteers and philanthropists in the broadest and highest sense.
In recognition of their long-time leadership in so many aspects of Santa Fe life, the couple received the 2010 Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts. The Santa Fe Opera honors Abe Silver for his life-long devotion to this Company, to his unfailing good humor, his friendship, and his great love of opera.

Mrs. Silver, My mom, Toni Orozco, used to work with you at the Guarantee. When I was a young boy I remember both of you as I sat in the back room doing my homework. You always let me stay there when I had not way to get home until mom got off of work. Then we would walk all the way near Acequia Madre road. I remember Abe coming and talking to me and always making a joke to make me smile. I will always remember you both for the kind ways in which you treated my mom. She is gone now and Mr. Silver has joined her, maybe they will sit and recall all the struggles and good times in their lives. May God watch over you now.
