Andrew Casados Obituary

Andrew Casados

Andrew Gerald Casados, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on Monday, January 31, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with liver disease. Born in 1951 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico to Antonia and William Q. Casados, Andrew was the youngest of three children. Andrew grew up in Santa Rosa and moved to Albuquerque after high school where he worked for many years in sales at Bueno Foods and made lifelong friends.

Andrew was very proud of his degree in Networking Technology from CNM after returning to school in his 50's. He enjoyed a long and rewarding 26-year long career at CNM and Sandia National Laboratories. Andrew met his fiancée, Cindy Baldwin, in 2008 and it was love at first sight for them both. They treasured and embraced every moment together.

His family and friends remember Andrew as a man's man. He valued hard work and was the type of person who would choose to repair an item over buying something new. On weekends, you would find him tinkering and riding his beloved 1971 Norton motorcycle, watching football, taking long walks in the South Valley with his beloved dogs, tending to his beautiful yard and garden, and going on Saturday night dates with Cindy (a fun tradition they shared every week).

Andrew was driven by a passion to help others. As an avid skier, he devoted every ski season for 22 years to being a volunteer instructor with the Santa Fe Adaptive Sports Program, sharing and teaching children and adults with disabilities about the sport he loved so much. His 22 years as a volunteer brought Andrew so much joy and happiness and he loved all his students and the many dear friends he made.

A fun-loving, compassionate, and kind man, Andrew would always look at the brighter things in life and had such a generous soul. Andrew was a man of faith who loved the Lord. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones who celebrate that he is at peace and at home with his Creator.

He is survived by his loving sister, Dolores "Cricket" Gerhardt, his daughter, Lenora Tijerino, his fiancée, Cindy Baldwin, and her children, Evan Baldwin and Amy Baldwin. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces who he loved so much.

Andrew was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Antonia Mariana Casados and father, William Q. Casados, and his brother, William D. Casados.

I skied with Andy for 20 years with the Adaptive Ski Program. I want to underscore the language used in his obituary. He was a fun-loving, compassionate, and kind man. He could always be counted upon to pitch in and with a smile. When I was director I learned he had a special talent for relating to teenage boys , especially those who were not enthusiastic about skiing. He made their days and put smiles on the faces of his fellow instructors watching him work with kids. I must say, I enjoyed every moment of contact I had with Andy and am pained at his death. My sincerest condolences to his family.
