Andrew Griego Obituary

Andrew S. Griego

Andrew S. Griego, born January 31, 1967, passed away March 14, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Louise Griego; his adopted brother, Anthony Armour, and his wife, April; his best friend, April Davis; his nephew, Matthew Griego; and his niece, Regina Saavedra.

To know Andrew was to know his love for the simple and meaningful: Star Trek, the Dallas Cowboys, movies, and music of the 1980s. He also held a lifelong respect for law enforcement, which became a defining part of his life through volunteer service.

After retiring from 20 years at the Albuquerque Journal and several years in security at the Albuquerque Studios, he volunteered with multiple units of the Albuquerque Police Department, including the Canine Team and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, where he served as vice president and board member. He organized fundraisers and donation drives, providing cruiser bags for APD officers, built partnerships with local businesses, and produced newsletters for one of the APD Area Commands.

For over 30 years, Andrew handcrafted custom model police vehicles, each detailed to match an officer's patrol unit, complete with decals and working lights. Some were even raffled. He continued this work until he lost his fine motor abilities.

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads of Albuquerque, 5200 Marble Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM, on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 10:30 a.m.
