Andrew Dudley Lyons, Jr.



On December 26, 2022, Andrew Dudley Lyons, Jr. died quietly and peacefully in Albuquerque, NM, at the age of 98.

Andrew was born in 1924 in Hillsboro, NM. His parents were Andrew Dudley Lyons, Sr., and Cora Daniels Lyons. Andrew grew up on the Lyons Ranch in Sierra County, NM, and he attended local schools in Truth or Consequences (Hot Springs), where he was active in sports and music.

As a teenager, Andrew attended Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tenn. Thereafter, he attended Milligan College before enlisting in the US Navy. He received his naval officers' training in Indiana, at Notre Dame University. Andrew served with distinction and bravery as a naval officer aboard the APA-234 USS Bollinger on the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

In 1947, Andrew married Vera Morton in Truth or Consequences (Hot Springs), NM, and he began his career as a hydro-electrical engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation. After 55 years of marriage, Vera preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Van De Pol and Judy Burchiel, seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Andrew is also survived by his beloved companion, Barbara Angstadt.

Andrew was a man of great faith. He will always be remembered as a man who was devoted to God, to his country, and to his family. He was truly loved and is greatly missed.
