Dolores Sundt

Dolores Sundt, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022. She was born in Albuquerque and raised by her widowed mother in Roswell and Raton, NM. She attended UNM on a full ride Pepsicola scholarship, earning her BA in Spanish in 1951, and her MA in secondary education in 1969. While attending UNM, Dolores met her husband Bill at Wesley Club at First Methodist Church. They were married for 41 years before his passing. Together they raised their six children with church, scouting, piano lessons, swimming at the "Y", and frequent trips to the library. The family made many car trips - camping and exploring the whole country. Dolores and Bill enjoyed square dancing, bridge club, and traveling in Europe. Dolores joined Bill in his interest in archaeology, serving as the executive secretary for the Albuquerque Archaeological Society for 25 years.

She was a life-long reader, learner, and teacher. She also greatly enjoyed participating in many church activities and always attended the bi-annual Sundt Family Reunions. Dolores taught Jr. high and high school English for APS, Harwood School, and Menaul School for many years before retiring to be with Bill and her grandchildren.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Bill, and by her eldest daughter Marilyn. She is survived by her son-in-law Andy Mirdik, son Bill and wife Nicolle, daughter Laura and husband Guy, son Paul and wife Nancy, son Dan and wife Michelle and son David, as well as seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Nothing can prepare one for the loss of a parent, especially a mother. My love, thoughts and prayers are with you all even though I am not there.

My fondest memories of her are at the Reunions. She always had our Memory books and kept them updated. I loved how she knew who all of us were. She would come up and ask how my family was and I would not remember her at first. She would laugh and ask about everyone by name. She was a wonderful lady. She will be missed by us all.

At Angel Fire reunion in 1992 there were some vendors that set up booths. She and I split some buffing cloths. Every time I polish my car I buff with one of these and think of her from 1992.

Marilyn and I would always stop by on many of our RV trips and visit. She was always so happy to see us and made sure we had lunch with her. A great lady and will be greatly missed.

One of my fondest memories of how very upset she would get when she saw the word "Xmas." She would say "I don´t why people write it that way-it´s Christmas!!! I don´t know why that always stuck with me but it showed just how faithful she was.
