Dorothy Ferguson Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Mae Ferguson

Dorothy (Dottie) Mae Ferguson passed away on August 4, 2022 in the comfort of her home being surrounded by family and friends in her final days. She was a fighter until the very end, so there was comfort in the peace that her last breath brought.

Dottie was born on September 1, 1930 in Torrance County, CA. She moved to Albuquerque, NM around 1940 and graduated from Albuquerque High School. She held a variety of jobs after graduating, including being a loan officer for 20 years. In 1976 she went back to California, but in 2013 she returned to Albuquerque and moved in with her son, David Gates.

Dottie loved being with people. She was always up for a shopping trip, especially if it included finding a good deal or buying a new bedspread. She was known for her great stories, her love for her dogs, and her excitement about ice cream. She could often be found in a favorite chair happily lost in a good book. She was a classy lady with a stubborn streak that ran deep. She treasured reading Scripture and being involved in community at the church. She was a caregiver at heart, kind, steady, and always willing to do the work to make each day the best it could be.

Dottie is preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Vivian King, daughter Debra Ann Jamison, brother Richard King, first husband Bob Gates, second husband Leroy Ferguson, and daughter-in-law Roberta Gates. She is survived by her sister Jackie Clarkson, her son David Gates, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Thank you to AmberCare Hospice who worked compassionately to make her comfortable in her final days and offered support to the family. At this time a memorial service has not been scheduled, but will be at a later date.

Dotty and I were in the same Sunday School class and we would comment on each other´s fashions and it is indeed a fact , she was a classy lady. At that time we lived just a block over from each other and that gave us something else to talk about, always promising to visit each other but knowing if it didn´t happen we would visit in Heaven some day. The last time I talked to her was during the pandemic when I called to check on her, that was a tough time but she was tougher. I´m very sad I won´t see her again but I know Heaven is rejoicing! My deepest sympathies to her family, I know you all will miss her so much ! Hugs and love to you all, Katrinka Smith Sullivan

I´m so sad for you all. She certainly loved her family with a passion and she loved her God and church. I found it so funny that she enjoyed finding a good deal on a bedspread/ comforter. The most beautiful, classy comforters I have came from her. And the coolest shoes and jackets. I sure did love and enjoy her and I will dearly miss her.
