Georgine Katsaros Obituary

Georgine Katsaros

Georgine "Gina" Katsaros, born on Tuesday, December 13, 1960, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Michael and Angelina Katsaros,

immigrants of

Greece.

Gina was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she lived and attended local schools, eventually graduating from the University of New Mexico with a degree in education. After graduating, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked as both an educator and administrator for Houston school districts.

After retiring from her career in education in Houston, she moved back to Albuquerque to live alongside family, and again found herself employed as an educator for both Albuquerque Public Schools and the Rio Rancho School District. She retired for a second time in 2022, with ambitions to travel frequently and spend time with her loved ones.

Gina loved to travel to Greece, especially Kalamata (her parents' hometown), where she would spend months enjoying the sun and connecting with the Greek relatives. Her favorite place to pass the time was "Pefkaki Beach," where Gina spent many afternoons listening to the waves while enjoying the food and culture. Outside of traveling, Gina was known for having a green thumb, with an abundance of flowers and vegetables growing around her home and yard.

Gina is survived by her son, Michael

Theocharidis; siblings, Maria Cassimus (Marcus Cassimus), Louis

Katsaros, and

George Katsaros; as well as nieces and nephews,

Chris Cassimus, Angela Wiest,

and Georgie Katsaros; and former husband Marcus Theocharidis. She extended the love to the children of nephew and niece Chris and Angela, as well. Marilyn, Jacob, Marcus, and Dan were special to Gina. Gina had many friends

including Claudia

Dominguez, Barbara

Pacheco, George Petropoulos and Suzie Cypert who stood beside her during her battle with cancer. Numerous cousins in Greece also played a special part in her life.

Gina stayed devoted to her son Michael throughout her treatments as he was always her top priority.

Trisagion and Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 14, 2023, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High Street SE at 10:00 a.m. with Interment at Fairview Cemetery.

I would like to express my condolences for the loss of Gina. As a colleague, I was so fortunate to work with her. She was a powerful force! She was organized, honest, and always going above and beyond. She was a strong advocate for all students and a gracious friend. She was an amazing woman who brought light and energy to our school. Thank you for sharing her with us! May her light continue to shine through all who knew her.

I had the privilege and honor to work with Gina at Elsik High School in Houston, Texas in the early 2000's. She was smart, strong-willed, determined, funny, and she always sought ways to be of support to others on the campus. I remember her being kind and compassionate towards those that needed it. My condolences and prayers for her son, Michael and family, whom she talked about all the time and loved dearly. May she rest in peace.

Least said sooner mended in moments like this. It is very difficult to lose a really important and much loved person. Her image, her personality, the kindness of her soul will forever remain engraved in our thoughts and in our hearts. May she rest in peace and we will continue to love her. I think Gina from heaven will do the same because I'm sure that's where she is.
I love you Gina

Gina had a passion for life and ensuring the youth of today have everything they need to be successful in this life. From supporting student athletes at her church during her many years in Houston as well as decades of years as a teacher and administrator in education in many years. I appreciate and will miss all of her support and thoughtful conversation. Gina was a great thought partner champion for young administrators as well as students.
I take comfort that she is no longer in pain and trust that her faith in God will find her well deserved place in heaven.
I will miss her.

Gina was a strong, friendly, and funny individual who became a friend even after her retirement. We talked about her time in Greece (every May-August) and planned a visit together someday. This encouraged me to learn some words in Greek and Gina just laughed at me when I practiced with her. I am going to miss you my direct and strong will friend, but honored to have spent some time with you. Rest
