Helen and Harold Lederer welcomed me into their loving and stable home during my high school years, when my loving home was not so stable.
At my father's funeral in early 1994, Harold whispered in my ear "don't worry, you still have a daddy" and Helen, of course, was 100% with him in this....as they appeared to be together about everything.
But these words could make it look as if Helen was a "go-along to get along person." She was absolutely not. I loved her as a woman of convinction who was able to pull off "sticking to her guns" while responsibly, engagingly, LIVING life...even in the face of the truly tough challenges that come with sports/life/medical accidents that irreparably harmed people that she loved. She engaged with the bad news of life by surrounding it/overcoming it with love, principle, family, mischief, and the creation of joyful events.
She raised two wonderful women, of equally strong convictions, who engage with life to the full extent that life circumstances allow...who make wonderful friends and stick with them over many years....who, like their mom, have family as a source of joy and comfort and who deliver on their responsibilities in the face of tough circumstances.
I am learning from her now, six years after her death, as I write my experience of who she was. What a blessing to have had these glimpses of her in my life.

LuAnn and family. I was so sorry to read of your Mother's passing. She was a wonderful and kind woman. I wish you peace and comfort in your time of sorrow.

I had the pleasure of meeting Helen a couple times; she was genuinely sweet, selfless, and engaging...with a sparkle almost like Santa Claus! It is no wonder she was blessed with such a beautiful and loving family... I am fortunate to have her daughter Leesa as a dear friend. With love from Los Alamos, Suzie
