James Scott Obituary

James Patrick Scott

James Patrick (Pat) Scott was born in Philadelphia on May 25, 1953 to Anne Claire Scott and John Paul Scott. He grew up in a large family with two sisters, Chris Beck and Nancy Spector, and three brothers, Paul Scott, Don Scott, and Peter Scott. Pat loved his family get-togethers, where reminiscing brought lots laughter, particularly about their brother Pat, who never grew out of his hilarious sense of humor and fun.

Pat graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Business School. He had a varied career, mostly in the aerospace industry. His work took him to Washington DC, Lakewood Colorado, Socorro New Mexico, DC again, and finally to Albuquerque where he lived and worked for thirty six years.

Pat's passion was running. He loved racing, whether it be a 5k or 100 miles. He ran more than thirty ultra marathons, with age group awards for many of them. At age 50 he took first place in his age group at the Leadville 100 and in 2007 he successfully completed the Grand Slam, running four 100 milers in one summer.

Pat was a loving father and grandfather, who traveled many times to the east coast to visit them. For many years Sundays were catch up days, with much time on the phone.

Pat is survived by his daughter Ellen and her children Aiden, Julia, and Leith; his son Connor, his wife Sue and their children Hunter, Xavier and Brooke; his son Will, his wife Katie and their children Owen and Claire; his stepdaughter Clarissa, her husband Eric and their children Hazel and Cici; his stepson Ben and his wife Sarah; and his long time partner and love Evelyn Carter.

There will be private services later when the leaves in the bosque is green and the running paths are filled with runners.

Pat and I were good friends in high school and roomed together our freshman year at Penn. We worked high school summers at the Stone Harbor convent as gardeners for two years where we were sometimes joined by our friend Phil. The three of us ran for the Bishop McDevitt High school cross country team. I remember Pat driving us to practice in the coaches corvette. The team was recently inducted into the Belmont Plateau Hall of Fame (where all the major races in Philadelphia were run)
I was so sad to hear of Pat's passing. He was a good friend and always fun to be with.

This is a devastating loss. Pat was a high school friend of my brother Joe's in the Philadelphia suburbs and all the girls had crushes on him (including me!) He was a talented runner and a brilliant student. We reconnected in Albuquerque years later and Pat and his family were so kind to me. Pat was my son Harry's godfather. I will miss his smile, his quirky sense of humor and adventurous spirit. Condolences to Pat's children Ellen, Connor and Will and the rest of the family.

Pat was a kind and intelligent person who was one of the most talented consultants I have ever met. He was the consummate trusted advisor and he will be greatly missed.

Pat´s sunny optimism was one of his most visible traits. He had a zest for life, a large repertoire of jokes to fit any occasion, and he nearly always was upbeat and friendly. He´ll be deeply missed.

Pat and I worked together in the aerospace industry in the late 80's to early 90's. He was an excellent business manager for our organization as well as a friend. Although a fast and tireless runner himself, he was very tolerant of my slow pace as we did our daily run at lunch time. We traveled often together on business trips and often tried to get in a run as well as a good meal after a long day of work.
