My relationship with my Uncle Lt. George T Gabel, a pilot with the Bruma Bridge Busters, is what drew me to Jim and his very personal story. I had only just learned of him when he had passed on ito the 'wild blue yonder', and so missed the opportunity of communing with 'Jimmer'. He is missed.

To James M. Vesely family: I just today finished reading "Unlike Any Land You Know", and was googling him intending to contact him regarding his book. What a shock to find his obituary. The way he handled the story of his search for his uncle Otsie showed the good heartedness of this fine man, and I am truely sorry for your loss. I too had an uncle in the 390th Burma Bridge Busters and was hoping Jim could give me some pointers to help me in my own search. May God grant you comfort in your sorrow.

Jim was a friend, a mentor, and a brilliantly creative guy. He met the love of his life, Mary, at Dartnell, where, for a number of years, a bunch of us had our twice-daily roundtable of jokes. Jim was a bundle of boundless creativity. It was an honor to work with him, or for him, on various projects across a couple of different companies as well as the list of pranks we pulled off. He never wasted life. We laughed a lot, Pancho...

Jim was a man who will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. His sense of humor, his stories and his written words were enjoyed by many of his Zeta brothers , but his love of you Mary and his family were what defined him most of all. You are in our prayers as you face this world without him and our hopes are that the many memories that you shared will someday bring joy to your heart.
