Joseph B. Burwinkle Jr.



Joseph B. Burwinkle Jr, 86, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, May 27, 2021 surrounded by family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be dearly missed by all. He loved his family and his work. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, five children: Annette Castillo (Mike) of Phoenix, Charlie Burwinkle, Pat Burwinkle (Becky), Dan Burwinkle (Bertha), Shawn Guerra (Robert) all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Joseph and Mary Ann met as children and were married for 64 years. Joseph continued the family business his Father started and has numerous projects across New Mexico and Arizona including a State of NM building in Santa Fe, Onate Elementary School in Albuquerque that is heated solely by solar and Hodgin Hall on the UNM campus in 1984. Joseph was an Elk, member of the Knights of Columbus, President of the Albuquerque Junior Chamber of Commerce, member of the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, board member of the Albuquerque Boys Club, member of the Albuquerque Tips Club, worked with Christina Kent Day Nursery, was instrumental in the formation of Lobo Little League, and volunteered for many years with Presbyterian Hospital where both Joseph and Mary Ann were on the board and held several officer titles including President. Joseph and Mary Ann loved square dancing and traveled to many events across the country. They loved to travel including trips to Alaska, Germany, and Antarctica.
