Marcus Xavier Santillanes



Our beautiful Marcus Xavier Santillanes, 45, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on June 21, 2018.

Marcus was a vibrant and fascinating man with talent, impeccable manners, and beloved by many. His striking smile, along with his memorable sparkling green eyes, lit up your heart and soul instantaneously. He was dependent on his family, faithful in his long-time friendships, dedicated to his work and made the day a bit better for all those in need. He spent endless hours working on his car, doodling in his art book, thrift shopping, and surfing the internet for entertainment and relaxation. Marcus enjoyed adventure and traveling, especially the mountains, where he could surround himself by nature and reconnect.

Marcus had many proud moments in his life. He was devoted to the love of his life of twenty-four years. He was a wonderful provider, who worked in the home health care industry for the majority of his career, and adored his elderly patients. He planned and promoted the building of Los Altos Skate Park, and participated in multiple skateboarding demonstrations for middle-school youth. He was pictured in Big Brother Skateboarding Magazine,representing New Mexico in pretty dope style! Marcus was the best man at the wedding of his best friend, Jason Flores to Deana Amerault.

Marcus is preceded in death by his father, William Santillanes. He is survived by his domestic partner, Deborah Mathen, and their cats, Cleo, Baxter, and Muggy; his mother, Marilyn Santillanes; his second mother, Nieves Santillanes; his brother, William Santillanes; his sister, Tara Thompson; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, and friends.

Services for Marcus will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at Victory Outreach on 435 Jefferson S.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico. As family, we would love to see you and have you with us during this time as we celebrate Marcus's stunning life! Afterwards, we will regather for a meal in his honor.

As Marcus received therapeutic comfort from his pets, particularly Baxter, his cat, that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the 'Baxter Fund' at VCA Wyoming Animal Hospital, 2740 Wyoming Boulevard, Suite 1, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87111, at 505-298-7444. Proceeds will go towards medical costs or supplies for the pets of families who may need financial assistance.
