Marilyn Chynoweth Obituary

Marilyn Louise Chynoweth

Marilyn Louise (Bayes) Chynoweth, 92, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, in Albuquerque after a brief illness. Born Sunday, October 26, 1930, to Clarence and Dorothy (Manz) Bays, Marilyn was raised in Niagara Falls, NY. She worked for Hooker Chemical Company where she met the love of her life, George Chynoweth. They married in 1952, and thereafter stayed home to raise their five children. As an only child herself, she was determined to have a big family and succeeded!

The family moved multiple times as her husband George took on different roles within Hooker Chemical. They lived in Lewiston, NY, Western Springs, IL, Buffalo, NY, Tarrytown, NY, La Grange, IL and Ridgewood, NJ. Along the way they accumulated numerous life-long friends. Upon George's retirement in 1985, they moved to Albuquerque, NM to live closer to their children.

Marilyn was very active in volunteer work throughout her life. In Albuquerque she was a longstanding member of Church of the Good Shepherd, Assistance League of Albuquerque, PEO Chapter AM, and kept a rigorous social calendar. She was hard to keep up with!

Possessed with a rare ability to make friends with everyone and anyone, Marilyn was a kind spirit who found the good in every situation and brought out the best in every person she met. She laughed easily and often and was always up for fun. She was an extremely talented bridge player but liked all games-- especially those played with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Upon the death of her husband in 2010, Marilyn moved into Good Samaritan Society -- Manzano del Sol Village senior living facility where she quickly took over as the unofficial resident activities director. She was involved in just about everything at Manzano and deeply loved the friends she made there as well as the staff. Her joy for life was contagious and made people want to be around her; she still maintained a rigorous social calendar.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, George. She is survived by son, Phil and his wife Kipp; daughter, Gail and her husband, Jim Bullard; son, Paul and his wife Julie; son, Jim and his wife Hilma, all of Albuquerque; son, Bob and his wife Marie of Fishers, IN; thirteen grandchildren: Sean (Kendra), Jeff (Dani), Jessica (Justin Williams), Ryan (Heather) Pennington, Monica Pennington, Rob Keedy, Lauren (Chris Keeton) Bullard, Aren, Brianna, Will, Henry, Thomas, and Olivia; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces along with innumerable friends and well-wishers. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.

A Memorial Service will be held at Manzano del Sol, 5201 Roma Ave NE in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on

Friday August 4, 2023.

Memorial contributions can be made to Church of the Good Shepard, UCC or Good Samaritan Society-Manzano Del Sol. Please visit our online guestbook for Marilyn at
