Keith Leon Walker and Sonia

Mary Macera on May 20, 1959. His father, Keith was active-duty military for his childhood and Mark moved to a new location every 2-3 years. He graduated from Fairborn Park Hills High School in Fairborn, Ohio in 1977.

After high school, Mark attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He married Linda Nelsen Walker on August 26, 1988, in Golden, Colorado. Mark then went on to graduate from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians now known as Des Moines University, in 1993. His residency in Internal Medicine was completed at the University of Kansas in 1996.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, and physician. His most recent position was working for

Lovelace Medical Group and

specializing in

bariatric medicine. His passion was helping

his patients with their weight loss and diabetic needs. Mark was named the top bariatrician in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, in 2018.

Mark is preceded in death by his father, mother, and two brothers: Keith, Sonia, Michael, and David.

Mark is survived by his wife and three children: Linda, Matthew, Jamie, and Sarah.

Due to the pandemic, the family has decided to postpone service arrangements until after the holidays.

I am so saddened by the news of Doctor Walker's Passing. I had just had an appointment with him. He always was upbeat and made me feel I am okay just keep working. Dr. Walker was my diabetic specialist and weight loss coordinator, working with him was the best experience I'd ever had coming from a lot of disappointments with previous physicians whom made me uncomfortable and unhappy with my treatment. He was kind, fair and funny, I always enjoyed seeing him, even if I wasn't feeling well, he gave me the confidence to work on my weight and manage my diabetes, nothing can replace him, my condolences to his family. He was a wonderful doctor.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Dr. Walker was the best doctor I had in my 55 years. He was my doctor this year and he helped me manage my diabetes and finally lose weight due to my frustration with insulin intolerance. I have to say, he saved my life. Dr. Walker was my primary care physician and a visit with him was like being with a friend who really cared and wanted to do everything to make the lives of all his patients better. Doc as I called him was a great doctor and I'm quite sure a great family man. He was instramenta in my case me losing 120 pounds. Often I would tell people he was more excited about than I wasthan I was about my weight loss than i was. Im so sorry for my passing so much. He treated me almost like a friend which we could of been outside of being a patient. I know I will miss Doc.

I was sadden to hear of Dr. Walker passing. I was a patient of his and I saw him on zoom for one last time before the determination of my surgery. I was informed by the Surgeon the day of my surgery that Dr Walker had passed away. Dr Walker helped me with my weight loss so that I may successfully get my corrective surgery done. I express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Walker for supporting me in my weight loss journey. My condolences to his family and prayers. Dr. Walker was a wonderful, kind, and compassionate physician and man. Thanks to him, he put me on the road towards weight loss. I saw him last in October and he seemed so very proud of the weight I had dropped since our last visit. He reallly encouraged me and gave me the incentive to not give up. I am very much saddened, shocked, and overwhelmed by Marks passing. He and I met when we were about 13 years old. His father and mine were in the US AF, we recently moved to a new base housing subdivision and Mark was playing baseball in a field behind my house.

We became best friends as we began to high school. We were in the same biology class during our sophomore year. Mark and I were at the same bio table with Bev and Tammy - we all became good friends. Mark was always joking about something and getting us all in trouble.

Mark graduated HS early and went off to become a repertory therapist - he talked about this a lot and I knew he had found a path. He wanted to help people. We drifted apart for a few years, I moved to Texas. When I became engaged, I asked Mark to be my best man - he graciously agreed.

We drifted apart off and on for years but when we connected it was like we just talked yesterday. He always spoke with great pride regarding his marriage to Linda and the same with his three children. He was so proud.

Recently we started talking more often and this past September we Zoomed with other HS classmates. We were going to talk around Thanksgiving. Then I got the news.
My wife and I send our deepest condolences.

Mark will be missed.

We are just devastated...hearing of Dr. Walker's passing. We are in disbelief. He was such a good man and an exceptional human being. He showed genuine care and concern for all of his patients and he helped me get the medication that was right for me with my diabetes, something that three other doctors couldn't do. My heart is broken for the loss of my uncle and his beautiful family. I always looked up to my uncle and so proud of all of his accomplishments. Dr Walker saved my life more than once when I was recovering from severe septic shock. He paid attention to the patient and the machines. He was a gifted physician and a wonderful and caring human being. I am so thankful to have been in his care. He will be greatly missed.

We were friends with Mark and Linda at Porter Hospital Critical Care in Denver in the 1980´s before, during and after they married. You couldn´t ask for better friends. After nearly 30 years apart we rediscovered each other in Rio Rancho. We were so excited.....it was like we had never been apart.We love Mark and Linda like family. He was always upbeat, devoted to his family and profession and funny and generous to a fault. It´s hard to accept such a unique individual is gone so suddenly. He was justifiably proud of his work in bariatrics and his patients thought the world of him. He was especially proud of his children ...Jamie, Sarah and Matt. We have enjoyed the company of his children and wife Linda. They are all amazing, educated, kind , thoughtful and hilarious. They are so proud of him, as are we. Life can change in a heartbeat. We can´t imagine a world without Mark. He made a difference. You could not meet him and not like him. You will always be in our hearts Mark

As I still sit in disbelief of your passing, I am forced to remember the tons of memories we shared. We built weight loss programs together and watched them grow into great success. You were an Amazing Doctor and and even Greater Friend. You were like family to my family and were treated like such. Dr. Walker was also my physician and was a fantastic doctor, one that actually took the time to listen to his patients. He also helped my son a couple years before by referring him to another Dr. that was able to help him. Hearing about his sudden passing has been tragic as he positively touched so many lives. Dr Walker was my physician. He was always so engaged and took the time to listen, which seems to be a lost art with a lot of doctors. It's one of the reasons I switched doctors originally and I really liked his bedside manner and the time he took to talk and share a story. I know he will be missed and I send prayers to his family.

Dr. Walker has been my primary care doctor since 2016. He has been wonderful and so caring. In 2017 I had 3 surgeries, with 2 of them at SRMC. He put me at easy telling me that you were a RN there and I would get wonderful care.
I prayed for him during the surgeries in Marina del Rey and his recovery. The world has lost a wonderful gentleman and a understanding doctor.

I remember the first time I met Dr. Walker he walked into the patient room where I was waiting and he stopped just inside the door and started singing "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly. I immediately knew he was not your ordinary physician. He was such a breath of fresh air and an absolute joy to visit with. I'm going to miss him terribly and something tells me whoever his replacement may be, he/she will suffer by comparison. God speed Mark Walker.
