Megan Dougherty Obituary

Dougherty, Megan

Charleston, West Virginia 1982. Megan Elizabeth Dougherty was born, six months later she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. She was given three months to live, due to little advances in cancer therapy at the time. She spent the next ten years of her life in an Albuquerque, New Mexico hospital. And beat cancer.

Megan was raised by loyal and loving family and friends until the age of 20. She participated in Special Olympics, and volunteered at countless hospitals, schools, churches and charities. In 2003 she lost her mother and best friend Paula Sue Dougherty. Everything changed.

She would spend the next 12 years in and out of group housing, with various caregivers. But that's not to say she didn't enjoy it, she always found happiness in every situation.

In 2009 she was reunited with her father, Carlton C. Dougherty and she would visit him every summer and every Christmas. His funeral was held five months ago. She was able to attend and send him off with the rest of her family.

Megan was loved by every soul she ever crossed, nobody was ever a stranger. And she has fought tougher obstacles in her few years than you and I will ever face our whole lives.

Megan passed away on Thursday, March 12th.

She is survived by her three brothers, also countless family and friends.

Services will be held at Sagebrush Community Church in Albuquerque Friday, March 20th at 3:00 pm.
