Miriam Lacombe Obituary

Miriam Lacombe

1940 - 2020

Our dearest Miriam passed away on 12/17/20. Throughout her five year battle with cancer, she exhibited immense courage, unfailing grace, and magificant fortitude. She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Michael, her son Ethan, daughter-in-law Esther, grand daughters; Heidi and Katie, brother Efraim, sister-in-law Aida, nephew Efraim Jr., and niece Trisha. She is preceded in death by her parents, Justino and Fidela Cestero, as well as a daughter, Brenda, who died in infancy.

Miriam's parents came to New York City from Puerto Rico 85 years ago, and the American Dream became a reality for them, as well as their children. After college, Efraim enjoyed success as a teacher in the N.Y City public school system, while Miriam pursued a career in human services. After receiving her master's degree from the Hunter College graduate school of social work, she worked primarily in the fields of child welfare and community health care services.

After moving here to New Mexico in 2004, Miriam was able to pursue her twin passions for painting and creating unique craft items from mostly recycled materials. Her family and friends have suffered a profound loss, but we shall live on with the knowledge that her warm, generous, joyous spirit will help to sustain us always and forever.
