Nancy Madigan Obituary

Nancy Knox Madigan

Nancy Knox Madigan, 76, graduated into communion with her Lord on December 8 after an extended illness, supported by friends and surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband Chris Madigan, daughters Lauren and Sarah Madigan, granddaughters Reily and Addison Cates and Indigo Eyring, and brothers Ronald F. and Edward R. Knox and their families. Nancy was the daughter of Ronald F. Knox Sr. and Anne Robertson Knox, who predeceased her.

Nancy was raised in Alabama, graduated from Vanderbilt University and the University of North Carolina, and taught elementary school before becoming a banker in Missouri and New Mexico, eventually managing the Commercial Lending department at Bank of America as Senior VP. She retired as a business administrator for Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church (HCPC) in Albuquerque.

Nancy served local chapters of the lenders' organization Robert Morris Associates (President), the Small Business Administration (Advisory Council Chair), New Mexico Bankers Association, United Way of Central New Mexico (Finance Division Chair), American Cancer Society (Income Development Chair), Methodist Foundation, and the New Mexico State Board of Finance. Most recently, she served on the boards of Seed and Light International and the La Vida Llena retirement community's Full Life Foundation.

At HCPC, she also served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Elder, member of a long-standing women's covenant group whom her children dubbed "The Angels," and leader of the WOWs (Women on Wednesday) Bible study.

Nancy was proudest of her family, cared weekly for her granddaughters as infants and toddlers, and cheered their teams enthusiastically at all the gymnastics meets and basketball and soccer games she could attend.

Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host a celebration of Nancy's life on Saturday, February 3, 10:00 AM, at 8600 Academy Road NE, Albuquerque NM 87111. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Seed and Light International, a global food ministry teaching sustainable agriculture, c/o Terry Moore, Treasurer, 9274 E. Chris and Family. I remember Nancy fondly working with her as a volunteer at the American Cancer Society. We continued keeping in touch afterwards also. Nancy was a very special person. Jeff and I are very sorry for your loss. She will be missed.

Nancy was a classy woman, she was also a very good supervisor! One of my favorite memories that really says a lot about Nancy is when she retired from HCPC and told me that since she was no longer my supervisor she could now say that she loved me. As my supervisor it would have been inappropriate to say that to me. Her class really came out that day and our friendship was solidified! I miss her greatly but look forward to spending eternity with her and all of my other friends and family that have accepted Jesus as their LORD and savior!

Nancy was a sweet, kind, and loving woman. Reading her obituary revealed an amazing life of service and wisdom. She loved Jesus first and family next. What more would we want from a friend. We loved her and will miss her shining countenance.
