Patricia Carr Obituary
May 1, 1945 â€" June 22, 2022
Patricia Sperry Carr, of Anaheim Hills, California, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Terri was born on May 1, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to Glade and Patricia Sperry. She graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque and received a degree in mathematics from the University of New Mexico in 1966 where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority, an affiliation that continued throughout her life.
Upon graduation from UNM, Terri was among the first women System Engineers hired by IBM in the Albuquerque area. Terri's 30-year career with IBM Included management positions in Austin, Dallas, and Atlanta where she met and married a fellow IBM executive, David G. Carr. Her accomplishments earned her a chapter in the book Women of True Grit by Edie Hand and Tina Savas. She was also a member of the Junior League throughout her career.
When Terri retired, she became active in SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). This nationwide non-profit organization provides mentoring and workshops to local small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. SCORE allowed Terri to continue using her
business skills and knowledge.
As a founding member in 1999 of the Orange County
chapter of ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) at the University of California Irvine, Terri served ARCS in several roles, including chapter President. The ARCS Foundation provides financial awards to UCI's most academically superior doctoral students in science, engineering, and medical research.
Terri was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David G. Carr, and her brother, Glade Sperry Jr. who was an award-winning architect in Albuquerque. She is survived by her sister Kathleen Hancock (James)
of La Jolla, California, and her niece, Emily Sperry, of
Gardiner, New York, and her devoted companion of seven years, Jerry Remick.
A private celebration of her life is planned for
August 10, 2022, in Albuquerque.
