Peter Reed Obituary

Reed, Peter C.

Peter C. Reed of Albuquerque, NM, died on August 10th, 2017. He was 72.

Born May 11th, 1945 in Albany, NY to Porter and Louise Reed (nee Hoteling), Peter was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School ('63), where he was valedictorian, student council president, and a champion wrestler.

Peter graduated Wesleyan University ('67) with a degree in economics. There he was a two-time NCAA New England Champion wrestler, and worked summers as a road construction foreman on the Northway, the section of I-87 that passes through the Adirondacks. He obtained an MBA in Operations Research from University of Rochester's Simon Business School ('69).

A dedicated husband and father, Peter met his wife, Brona, in Rochester, NY and were married 43 years. In 1986 they moved to Essex, VT to provide their sons, Christian and Justin, an upbringing closer to nature and family. The boys remember their father as an unfailingly supportive champion throughout their lives.

A CFO and CEO, Peter had a diverse career spanning computers, military equipment, and aerospace. Known both for working and playing hard, many colleagues became lifelong friends.

Peter and Brona enjoyed a well-deserved retirement, savoring time with family and friends, and spent summers in Plattsburgh, NY at Marine Village Cottages. During his youth he helped his father build the cottages on Lake Champlain, and took great pride in renovating one for family retreats.

A lifelong athlete, Peter recently took up paddle boarding, and bought an additional board for visiting friends. It was on such an excursion that Peter suffered an apparent heart attack when he and a friend lost their boards. Peter remained calm during the incident and, despite his desperate state, called for help from a nearby samaritan. Thankfully, his friend was rescued. However, Peter, a lifeguard in his youth, slipped under the waters of the lake he loved.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Brona; two sons, Christian (Stephanie) and Justin (Nina); siblings, Porter (Carolynn), Priscilla, and Philip; Porter's children, Porter and Robin, and their families; and countless friends.

"I loved life, loved work, loved my wife and kids, loved sports, and loved to party. It is only befitting that my passing be not one of sorrow but one of laughs and fun. So have a great party â€" make me proud!!!! Make the cops come."

Parties will be thrown in Peter's honor in Plattsburgh, NY and Albuquerque, NM. See PeterReed.org for more details and to leave your remembrance.

As a classmate, I always respected "Squeaker's"l intense focus, dedication, tenacity and work ethic. As a wrestler he had very few peers in the entire country and as a friend he was loyal to a fault. While I hadn't seen since we graduated from Wesleyan in 1967, he made a lasting impression on me, all of which was positive. We wrestled once my freshman year, and I knew that I could never be in his league. I will never forget him. Jon Stover
