Richard A. Zimpel



1930-2020

Richard A. Zimpel, 90, of Albuquerque, NM passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at the NM State Veterans Home. Private family services will take place at a later date. Richard was born Jan. 9, 1930 to Arthur and Carrie (Nelson) Zimpel in Sheboygen, WI. He grew up in northern WI, and enlisted in US Air Force. Richard married Melvah Sue Dusenberry of Denison, TX.

After Richard's honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went on to complete his education and receive a doctorate from Oklahoma State University. Upon completing his doctoral, he was employed by the Utah State Board of Education and the Colorado State Board of Education.

After retiring, Richard and Sue moved to Tijeras, NM. In his retirement, Richard enjoyed making stained glass, fishing, wood carving and puttering with his antique John Deere tractors.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Janet (Scott) Oseid; stepson, Charles Warren; grandchildren, Chad (Maryann) Robertson, Cody (Leah) Warren, and Chase (Samantha) Warren; great-grandchildren Diego and Blake Robertson; sister, Carol (Ronald) Kirkpatrick of Kernersville, NC; brothers, Delbert Zimpel of Bloomer, WI, Harvey (Laura) Zimpel of Abilene, TX; sister-in-law, Donnell Zimpel of Manford, OK. He is further survived by many other family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Carrie Zimpel, his wife Sue and his brother, Gerald Zimpel.
