Sandra Browne Obituary

Sandra Porter Browne

Sandra Porter Browne passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at the age of 83. Sandra's family lived in small towns across New Mexico before finally settling in Artesia, NM. She attended Artesia High School and graduated in 1959. She was selected to Girls All State, DAR Best Citizen, served on the Student Council and was named "Wittiest" in her senior class, which comes as no surprise to anyone lucky enough to have known her. She attended the University of New Mexico and focused her work life and career in public service and public relations work.

Sandra and Graham Browne were married on May 5, 1962 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sandra loved to garden and spent many hours cultivating her beautiful roses. She also loved animals and had a special fondness for Yorkshire Terriers. She and Graham raised and loved many Yorkies throughout their lifetime. Family time was also of high importance to Sandra. She and Graham traveled with their daughters, Anne and Rebecca, on many family vacations. Thursday nights were set aside for family dinners, even after their daughters lived on their own. Sandra was active in the Albuquerque chapter of the League of Women Voters, giving tirelessly of her time and serving in various capacities, including as Vice President of Finance.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Maye and Jess Schoolcraft, her brother Jack Dwain Porter, her beloved husband Graham Browne, her beautiful daughters, Anne Porter Browne and Rebecca Anne Browne, and many beloved Yorkies. Contributions in her name and memory should go to worthy animal welfare and rescue organizations in New Mexico.
