Stephen Hall Simonds

1944 - 2023

Stephen Hall Simonds passed away peacefully on July 2 with his family by his side in Albuquerque. He was born March 24, 1944 and grew up in Kansas City, KS.
He attended University of Kansas and took 2 years off to go into the Navy where he was a sonar operator on an Anti-sub plane. Upon his return, he met Jayne and married her on June 8, 1968. They were sweethearts for 52 years before her passing. Steve will be remembered by his children Jennifer, Burton (Julie), and Matthew (Susan) and his grandchildren Nicholas, Gwendolyn, Samantha, and Emily. He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Goodman; brother, Goodman Nichols; mother, Margaret Adele; and wife, Jayne Louise.
Jayne and Steve lived in various places but kept returning to New Mexico where their three children were born. He had a long career in systems engineering primarily with Control Data, but also with ETA Systems, Silicon Graphics, and Sandia National Laboratory. He was a selfless man who was devoted to his wife and family. He doted on his wife making sure she had what she needed and made sure that his children had opportunities to get educated and pursue their dreams. He especially loved his grandchildren, finally getting to enjoy spoiling them without consequence.
A private memorial with close family and friends will be held. Memorial donations can be made to Parkinson's Foundation.
