Terry Dolan Obituary

Terry Dolan

On August 4th, 2024, the tremendously beloved man, Terry Dolan, known fondly within his family as "Ted", was killed in an automobile accident at the age of 70.

Terrence Patrick Dolan was born on March 21st, 1954, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Terrance Leo and Lucille Mary (nee Jaramillo) Dolan. He attended Queen of Heaven School and St. Pius High School. He earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in Special Education through the University of New Mexico.

He was a special education teacher at Hayes Middle School for 28 years where he also served as Head Special Education Teacher and was considered a gem by staff, students, and their families. The love for his students was not only palpable within the walls of Hayes Middle School, but also at home where he baked a birthday cake for every student and hosted an annual cook-out for his class. He understood the importance of teaching his students not only academic knowledge but also that they were loved.

Hayes Middle School was not only a cornerstone in Terry's professional life, but also in his personal life. It was here that he met his "angel", Melinda Lee (nee Bray) Dolan, who has proudly carried the esteemed title of "Terry Dolan's wife" since 1983. In addition to Melinda, Terry is also survived by his daughter, Ella Dolan (husband, Joel Smith); son, Joseph Dolan (wife, Elle Reubie); sister, Pat Dolan (husband, Tom Selby); brother, Michael Dolan (wife, Carol Champion); father-in-law, Richard Bray; brother-in-law, Jon Bray; and beloved extended family and friends. Terry was expecting his first grandchild in September - a precious gift from his son and daughter-in-law. He was excited to be called "Grandpa" as he had such a special relationship with his own Grandpa. We are confident Terry is now feeling the joy of having met his granddaughter beyond this mortal plane. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents (Terrence and Ella Dolan & Abel and Severita Jaramillo); sister, Kathi Dolan; brother, Timmy Dolan; mother-in-law, Pat Bray; grandmothers-in-law, Krotona Bray and Anna Hall; and several other cherished family members and friends.

For all who knew him, and even some who did not, Terry's legacy is a testament to his kindness, generosity, selflessness, dedication, perseverance, and steadfast love. While Terry was loved by many, many adults, his most treasured connections were often with the countless children and teenagers with whom he formed bonds throughout his life.

Many who knew Terry also knew of his decades-long struggle with chronic pain. This pain took so much from him, including his ability to continue the career he loved. He retired from teaching in 2003, but this certainly did not mean he stopped connecting with kids and their families. He had already been heavily involved in the sports of his children acting as coach, referee, etc. and was able to pour his heart into Roadrunner Little League (RRLL) where he was, and continues to be, adored. Here, he served as a dedicated umpire, but also worked tirelessly to maintain the fields, hold training clinics, mentor youth umpires, support players and their families, and be the general go-to guy for any other odds and ends at RRLL.

He was a life-long Dallas Cowboys fan and spent many Sunday afternoons pacing up and down his hallway with the game on both TVs and the radio. He had a playful spirit and left us with a never-ending list of funny pranks and jokes played on those he loved most. You may have been lucky enough to have received the nickname "Sport" from Terry, which he used often, as had his dad. Though he lived a life of endless service to others and blessed so many people, he was infinitely humble. He gave without expectation and loved without hesitation. He is missed beyond words.

Terry's life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17th, 2024. Time and place are to be determined, but information will be posted soon on the following website: https://www.afterall.com/obituaries/. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roadrunner Little League or Special Olympics.

Our Pastor recently encouraged us to be the presence of God to the people you encounter. And I think that sums up Terry´s life so beautifully. We are so thankful for his constant presence and his wonderful example of kindness, hard work & dedication deeply shown to all of us at RRLL. He was willing and simply showed up. What an impact that made. Our deepest condolences and prayers of comfort.

Terry was a fixture at Roadrunner Little League, and any time we had the good fortune to have Terry as our umpire I knew it would be an honest, fair game. Terry always did his best to be accurate and knowledgeable about the rules in order to provide the best service he could. He was an inspiration of selflessness and gave back to the community with a passion unequaled among volunteers. He will be tremendously missed by his baseball family- thank you to Melinda and his family for sharing him with us.

Melinda and Family, I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Terry. He was so nice to me when I started at Pius my Freshman year. Coming from a small town, Cuba, I did not know anyone. I met Terry when we would both walk home from school and he would accompany me on the way. He was such a kind soul. I´m so glad I was able to visit with you both at the reunion. May God bless you and your family and may He hold you close during this trying time.

Hello, My name is Shannon Buckley I'm Terry Kawcak's daughter. I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Melinda and all Terry's loved ones. Terry was a very close beloved life long friend of the Kawcak family. Also considered a member of the Kawcak family. My Dad always said he was like a brother to them. My Grandma Lou Kawcak truly loved and thought the best of Terry. Terry also felt the same towards my Grandma. Before my Uncle Doug passed away in November of 2013, I remember Terry made countless trips to Los Lunas to visit with Doug and help us anyway he could. The time I spend with Terry and Melinda was brief but it was enough to realize they were very compassionate and caring people. My most valued memory is Terry sharing his faith with my Uncle Doug prior to him passing. I myself am eternally grateful to Terry for that. My Dad (Terry Kawcak) thoughts of Terry Dolan are "he was an intelligent, caring, compassionate and well basically a "damn saint" of a little brother. "Even though he was a cowboys fan we still loved him loved him lol."
May God Bless you all, you will be in thoughts and prayers.

Melinda, Ella, Joseph and family, I was a teacher, privileged to work at Hayes with Terry. I admired the gentle, quiet, humble, hard-working and easy going person that Terry was. He was the perfect example of a TRULY dedicated teacher and soon after he retired, the Hayes Middle School gym was dedicated in his name. It is with honor that I call Terry my dear friend and he will always be in my heart. God bless your broken hearts.

I had the privilege to be at Hayes the last half of his time there. He was an anchor and example for all of us. There seemed to be no end to the love and concern he had for his students. He always had a way of reminding us of what was really important, mostly leading by example.
He touched so many lives. I am sorry for his loss to our community, and wish Melinda and his family my deepest condolences.
