William Frost Obituary

William Gregory Frost Sr.

W. Gregory Frost, Sr., passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, after a valiant, years-long battle against illness.

Greg was born on St Patrick's Day, 1949 in San Mateo, CA. His roots were humble. At an early age, Greg exemplified the steadfast dedication and eagerness to learn that lead to his success later in life. He became a standout football player, understanding that football was a path to scholarship and a college education. He studied and practiced the sport diligently and was highly recruited out of Bishop Amat Memorial High School. After receiving several scholarship offers, Greg found UNM to be the best opportunity. He liked to say he "came to Albuquerque with only his suitcase in his hand, $40 in his pocket, and a determination to make something of himself." Greg finished his football career when he graduated in 1972 with a Business degree from UNM.

After graduating, Greg almost immediately found success in the banking industry. The savings and loan firm he worked for rapidly rose under his guidance and became the number one branch in the county in its asset class. When the savings and loan crisis hit, Greg shifted his focus to mortgage loan origination, working for a few firms and then opening Frost Mortgage in 1991.

With a keen mind for marketing, an innate desire to learn, and a purpose to differentiate himself from other loan originators, he began attending seminars around the country, adapting the principles he learned to fit him and his work. This drive earned him the title of "Mega Originator." In 1999 he became known nationally as "The Billion Dollar Man" when his personal production eclipsed $1 billion dollars in New Mexico. Greg parlayed his many accomplishments into a phenomenally successful speaking career, becoming one of the most sought-after speakers in the Mortgage Banking industry.

Greg will not only be remembered as a titan in his industry, but also as a mentor and a good friend. He loved telling stories and often shared his wisdom and memories freely with family, friends, and up-and-coming professionals. Greg loved a good meal and could tell you the best places to eat in nearly any city, USA.

Greg is survived by his beloved family, including Devon Frost, his wife of 34 years who stood by his side with unwavering devotion as he built his business to monumental success; his son, Greg Frost Jr, who now leads and works with many of Greg Sr.'s partners on multiple business fronts; and his nephew, Chris Frost, now President of the mortgage company he founded.

Details of his potential memorial service are forthcoming from his Family.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved ones today and always. You will be missed. Thank you for giving me a chance, and all the small talks sitting in your office. I actually was able to get to know a different side of you as a Uncle.

I will miss his, " hey kiddo" you by any chance making bizcochitos? I tried to make sure he had the traditional "goodies" that he and Michael grew up with! May he rest in peace. He's with his brother again!
