Anthony Joseph "Tony" Spedale, Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Anthony Joseph "Tony" Spedale, Sr., age 91, who passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Reverend Matthew Higginbotham will conduct the services. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Patsy Massey Spedale; his daughter, Karol Spedale Howerton and her husband, Michael; sons, Anthony J. Spedale, Jr. and his wife, Cindy, Dr. Steven Spedale and his wife, Marla, and Thomas Spedale and his wife, Julié; ten grandchildren, Anthony J. Spedale, III and his wife, Stacy, Jaelyn Spedale Richard and her husband, Rocky, Jessica Spedale Quebedeaux and her husband, Adam, Dr. Caroline Spedale Thomas and her husband, Zac, Allison Spedale Fox and her husband, Jason, Mary Kathryn Howerton, Steven Spedale, Jr., Christopher Spedale, Emma Faber, and Alex Dietlein; seven great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mary Grace Trippi Spedale; his sisters, Angie Spedale Tortorici, Lillie Spedale Pontello, and Theresa Spedale; and a brother, Angelo Spedale, Sr. A native of Houston, Texas and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most of his life, Anthony Joseph "Tony" Spedale, Sr. graduated from Cypress-Fairbanks High and immediately enlisted in the United States Marines in World War II. After his discharge, he entered the University of Houston School of Pharmacy. Tony graduated as a Pharmacist in 1952 and worked for Mading Drug Company rising to Vice President. When the Eckerd Drug Company bought the Mading chain, Tony was transferred to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1972 as Vice President and Regional Manager of the Eckerd Chain for Louisiana and Mississippi. Tony was a Registered Pharmacist in Texas and Louisiana. Upon his retirement in 1985, he joined his wife in their florist business, Spedale's Florist. Tony was always very active in his professional, church and personal life. He served as President of Harris County Pharmaceutical Association. He was an active member of Texas State Pharmaceutical Association, President of St. Pius X Ushers Association, Trustee of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a Charter Member of St. Pius X Knights of Columbus. Tony was always an active father for his children in any of their many activities. Pallbearers will be Anthony Spedale, III, Steven Spedale, Christopher Spedale, Alex Dietlein, Rocky Richard and Adam Quededeaux. Honorary Pallbearers will be Angelo Spedale, Jr., Gregory Spedale, Carl Tortorici, Paul Tortorici, Ray Dixon, Randy Dixon, Ashton Chaisson and Tex Spear. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 9:00 AM until time of service. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Spedale family to Tony's longtime caregiver, Sharona Glaude, and to Dr. Bradley Chastant, II for the compassionate care and support they gave.
