A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at 3:00pm at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Jerome 'Jerry' Stephens Young, 78, who died on May 7, 2021. Interment will be at Lafayette Memorial Park. The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's Downtown location on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, from 11:00 AM until time of service. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will serve as Celebrant. Honoring Jerry as pallbearers will be: Dr. Leon LaHaye, Brad Minter, Greg Goins, Claude LaHaye, Dr. Kirby Guidry, Floyd LeBleu, and Kenny Wilbur. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Curtis Roy, Jason Dismuke, Preston Deanhardt, Bradley Daboub, and Chris Cruz. Survivors include his devoted wife, Yasmin Moss Young and his children, Lisa Young Goins and her husband Greg Goins; Leslie Young Minter and her husband, Brad Minter; Lacey Young LaHaye and her husband Dr. Leon LaHaye; 5 grandchildren, Kelsey Deanhardt, Ashley Dismuke, Bradley Daboub, Lauren LaHaye and Claude LaHaye. Survivors also include his stepchildren, Angela Becnel, Karina Annesley and Victoria Moss. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, D.S. 'Shine' Young and Thelma Prejean Young. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1960 and was honored as an All American High School football player. He received an athletic scholarship to L.S.U. for football and was an offensive guard and defensive tackle on the GO TEAM of the Fighting Tigers. Jerry lettered in 1962 and 1963. During the years 62, 63, and 64 he played in the Cotton Bowl, Bluebonnet Bowl, and Sugar Bowl winning two out of the three bowls. Jerry played for head coach Charles McClendon and was one of 'Cholly Mac's' favorites. He continued to be part of the Tiger community by serving the Tiger Foundation Board with two stadium expansion projects. Jerry was instrumental in pushing the Charles McClendon Foundation to new heights. This organization awards scholarships to former Tiger football players' children for Academic Scholarships. One of his favorite things he talked about was playing for the Tigers and his true passion for L.S.U. Football. Jerry was also an avid outdoorsman, horseman, and fisherman and had boats of all sizes for decades. Jerry owned and operated Lafayette Concrete Company for many years. He was involved in the ownership of many restaurants here in Lafayette, New Orleans, and Destin, Fla. and currently was the majority owner of Pamplona Tapas Bar and Restaurant in Lafayette. Jerry served on the board of directors of Guaranty Bank for many years and was president of D. S. Young Insurance and Real Estate and construction. He also was on the Board of Directors of Lafayette General Hospital. He was a member and Duke of both Krewe of Gabriel and Krewe of Troubadours and loved to "laissez le bon temps rouler!" The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, Dr. Bradley J. Chastant, II, Dr. Gary Guidry, and Dr. Andy Blalock, and to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care West Lafayette for their dedication and care.
