He was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1960 and was honored as an All American High School football player. He received an athletic scholarship to L.S.U. for football and was an offensive guard and defensive tackle on the GO TEAM of the Fighting Tigers. Jerry lettered in 1962 and 1963. During the years 62, 63, and 64 he played in the Cotton Bowl, Bluebonnet Bowl, and Sugar Bowl winning two out of the three bowls. Jerry played for head coach Charles McClendon and was one of 'Cholly Mac's' favorites. He continued to be part of the Tiger community by serving the Tiger Foundation Board with two stadium expansion projects. Jerry was instrumental in pushing the Charles McClendon Foundation to new heights. This organization awards scholarships to former Tiger football players' children for Academic Scholarships. One of his favorite things he talked about was playing for the Tigers and his true passion for L.S.U. Football. Jerry was also an avid outdoorsman, horseman, and fisherman and had boats of all sizes for decades. Jerry owned and operated Lafayette Concrete Company for many years. He was involved in the ownership of many restaurants here in Lafayette, New Orleans, and Destin, Fla. and currently was the majority owner of Pamplona Tapas Bar and Restaurant in Lafayette. Jerry served on the board of directors of Guaranty Bank for many years and was president of D. S. Young Insurance and Real Estate and construction. He also was on the Board of Directors of Lafayette General Hospital. He was a member and Duke of both Krewe of Gabriel and Krewe of Troubadours and loved to "laissez le bon temps rouler!" The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, Dr. Bradley J. Chastant, II, Dr. Gary Guidry, and Dr. Andy Blalock, and to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care West Lafayette for their dedication and care. What can I say? I just found out from his lovely wife Jasmine that Jerry passed away 6 months ago. I am very saddened that I wasn´t able to attend and pay my respects to this amazing family.
Jerry was a kind, funny and straight forward person. I had the pleasure of knowing him for a short time but his warmth made me feel like I had known him all my life!
He will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace Jerry.
