John Robert Bonar

1949 - 2020

John Robert Bonar passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette. John was born November 22, 1949, in San Antonio, TX and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. John graduated from Lafayette High School and attended USL, now UL–Lafayette, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He was a former Event Director at the Heymann Performing Arts Center during the 1980's and was also a salesman for Gordon's Jewelers in Lafayette for many years. John was an avid animal lover. As a musician, he enjoyed playing guitar and bass. In the 70's, he was a founding member of the group Zuider Zee, which recently re-issued their album. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, friends and pets. John is survived by his two daughters, Jill Bonar and her husband Jarod Gaspard, of Lafayette and Sara Bonar, of New Orleans as well as extended family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emerson Bonar and Sara Carlotta Hill Bonar. The family wishes to thank the staff of Camelot Rehabilitation at Magnolia Park for the compassionate care given to John and his family.
