Reverend Joseph Henry Stemmann left to meet our Heavenly Father on April 6, 2022. He was a blessing born to Ita Comeaux & husband Raoul Joseph Stemmann on January 4, 1933, in Lafayette LA. We have hope that they have gone before him to welcome him into Heaven, along with his siblings and loved ones: Nellie Stemmann & husband Johnny Dean, Mable Stemmann & husband Francis Ezernack, Raoul & Mercy Stemmann, Maydel Stemmann & husband Frank Trainor, Nina Scimemi Stemmann, Herman Romain, Donna Stemmann Wikman, Andrew Stemmann, Britny Dean Merrill, Kenneth Scott Dean, Ed Gartner & Dennis Ng. He is survived by brother Preston Stemmann & wife Connie from Alexandria LA and sister Marie Stemmann Romain from Houston TX. He was adored by his 19 nieces & nephews: Sandra Dean Ng, Carolyn Dean & husband Gabriel Garcia, Milton & Lori Dean, Kenneth & Melissa Dean, Geraldine Ezernack & husband Kemble Guillory, Brenda Ezernack & husband Andy McCain, Richard Wayne Ezernack, Jerome & Darleen Ezernack, Arthur Ezernack, John & Carol Ezernack, Julie Stemmann Gartner, Ralph & Kathy Stemmann, Karl & Kay Stemmann, Ann Trainor & husband Paul Irish, Peter & Beth Trainor, Mary Stemmann & husband Alan Lafleur, Melissa Romain & husband Westley Harrott, Byron & Staci Romain. He had 38 great nieces & nephews, 19 great, great nieces & nephews, and one great, great, great nephew. His mother was a Third Order Carmelite, his father was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Society of St John the Evangelist Cathedral in Lafayette LA. His prayerful family prepared and supported him in his life dedicated to Christ. He was ordained May 25, 1963 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Lafayette La. by Bishop Maurice Schexnayder. He shared his loving heart with everyone he met. His compassion helped heal communities and restored their faith in Christ. His humor gave such joy, it brought everyone closer to God. Talking with him was experiencing a conversation with Jesus. He was truly a priest of Christ. His great big hug will be missed. He gave his heart to us and forever he will be in ours. He was assigned to the parishes of Our Lady of Perpetual Help-New Iberia 1963-1969, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary-Kaplan 1969-1972, 1975-1977, Saint Joseph Church-Patterson 1972-1975, Saint Theresa of the Little Flower-Duson 1977-1984, Saint John and Saint James-Henry and Esther 1985-1996, Saint Joseph-Rayne 1996-1998, Our Lady of Mercy and Sacred Heart-Henderson and Butte La Rose 1998-2000. After his heart attack he retired yet volunteered to help with the Cursillo-Retreat Center in Prairie Ronde LA, Saint Benedict the Moor-Duson 2006-2007, and was Chaplain for Consolata Home in New Iberia 2007-2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. The Most Reverend J. Douglas Deshotel, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette will be the Celebrant of the Mass and Reverend Keith Landry will be the Homilist. Pallbearers will be Rev. Gregory Cormier, Rev. Randy Courville, Rev. Darren Eldridge, Rev. Kenneth Domingue, Rev. Alexander Albert, and Rev. Brian Harrington. The family requests that visitation be observed in Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist Church on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 1:30 P.M.in Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist. Memorial contributions can be made in Rev. Joseph H. Stemmann's name to The Reverend Joseph H.
