Lester Ducote Obituary

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Dr. Lester L. Ducote, Jr., 86, who died on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Mario Romero, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include his beloved wife Karla Anne Dupleix Ducote; one son, Lester J. Ducote and his wife Ellen; four daughters, Dr. Neva Seago, Ellen Stokes and her husband Mike, Virginia Remeny and her husband Merle and Dr. Angela Snow and her husband Bryan; one step daughter, Kelli Duhon and her partner Kevin Craig; one step son, Mike Duhon and his wife Buffy; one sister, Annette Houseknecht; grandchildren, Alex Ducote, Benjamin, Sara, Lauren, and Nicole Seago, Jacob Stokes, Julia and Emma Remeny, Nicholas, Emily and William Snow and Chase and Cole Duhon; one great granddaughter, Lula Raye Ducote; mother in law, Juanita Dupleix. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Leo Ducote, Sr. and Marguerite Reynaud Ducote; one son, Mark James Ducote; one granddaughter, Audrey Ellen Ducote. Dr. Ducote graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Following graduation from medical school with honors in 1963, he did an internship in Internal Medicine. Dr. Ducote began practice in Lafayette as an Internist. After six years in private practice, he continued his training with a Fellowship in Cardiology at Texas Heart Institute in Houston. He returned to Lafayette to work as the first Interventional Cardiologist in the area. For more than 58 years, Dr. Ducote practiced medicine in Lafayette and the surrounding areas as an Internist, Cardiologist, and Functional Medicine Specialist. He loved deep sea fishing, woodworking, gardening, trips to the beach and spending time with his family, but his true passion was cardiology. He will be remembered for his great attitude and conduct in the presence of his patients and hospital staff. His compassion, courtesy and sympathy displayed towards patients was unmatched. Pallbearers will be Alex Ducote, Benjamin Seago, Jacob Stokes, Nicholas Snow, Mike Stokes, Merle Remeny and Bryan Snow. Honorary Pallbearers will be Preston Domingue and Ema Haq. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's Downtown location on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Memorial contributions can be made in Dr. Ducote's name to Healing House, 160 South Beadle Road, Lafayette 70508. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Ducote family to Dr. Fazal, Dr. Kfoury, the nurses and staff members at Our Lady of Lourdes and the Carpenter House, and his caregivers during his illness.
