A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 3:00 pm at The Bayou Church in Lafayette, LA, 2235 Kaliste Saloom Rd., 70508, for Matthew David Jeffrey, 48, who passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2021, in Niagara on the Lake in Ontario, Canada. Pastor Linton Broussard, Care Pastor of The Bayou Church in Lafayette, will officiate. Matthew David Jeffrey, known affectionately to his family and friends as "Matt", was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on June 14, 1973, and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. Matt was a graduate of Niagara District High School and Kansas State University (KSU), where he was a decathlete on KSU's track and field team and majored in Kinesiology. Matt then completed his post-graduate studies at Louisiana State University (LSU) and graduated from LSU's Banking of the South's Graduate School. Professionally, Matt was a 20-year community banking veteran, having started his career with St. Martin Bank & Trust Co. in 2001 and rising to the position of Senior Commercial Lender and Board Member. Upon St. Martin Bank's merger into Home Bank, Matt successfully migrated to Home Bank as a commercial lender and quickly rose to the position of Acadiana Market President. Matt possessed a real positive energy and genuine exuberance for life and was the most genuine, honest and caring man ever. Patient and kind, he was always interested in helping others, in ways both big and small and whenever he could. When asked to be a candidate for
The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society's Man of the Year event, Matt vigorously took on the challenge and won, awarded for raising the most funds of any candidate that year and setting the bar for future candidates. In his leisure time, Matt's hobbies included thoroughbred horse racing, commercial real estate investments, dabbling in the stock market and, most importantly, spending time with his loving wife and children and his extended family, both in Louisiana and Canada. In the words of his family, "Above all else, our beloved Matt was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and close friend to so many. His passing has left a void in so many lives and he will be sorely missed." Left to honor Matt's life are his wife, Pharaby Simone Privat Jeffrey, of Lafayette; his three children, Jesse, Luke and Payton; his parents, Robert David Jeffrey and Glenda Iris (Brown) Jeffrey; his sister, Lisa Ann Jeffrey; his mother-in-law, Sharon Daigle Privat and his father-in-law, Fernand Privat, Jr.; his brothers-in-law, Matthew Privat and Joshua Privat; his aunt and uncle, Brenda (Brown) Deumo and David Deumo as well as a host of friends and colleagues.
