On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, Melanie Dusang Lunn, was graciously called by God as her work on earth was completed. Melanie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 6, 1943, to Edward A. Dusang, Sr. and Myrtle Westerhaus Dusang, deceased. She grew up in Jefferson Parish in the shadows of the Huey Long Bridge. Melanie graduated from East Jefferson High in 1961, and went on to Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond. In her Junior year of college she met the love of her life and best friend Rodney F. Lunn and married in August, 1963. They had a beautiful and bountiful life. When they married she had an instant family of two fantastic step-children, Monty Lunn, (married to Kathleen), now residing in New Orleans, and Jana Lunn LaDew, (married to Michael), now residing in Kernersville, NC. They had two magnificent daughters together, Steffany Lunn Whiting, (married to John), now residing in Winston Salem, NC, and Aime Lunn Robicheaux (married to Carl), now residing in Estes Park, CO. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Hannah Touby, Los Angeles, CA, Harrison Touby, Washington, DC, Rebecca Touby, Washington, DC, Christopher Whiting, Winston Salem, NC, Maggie Lunn Bohan (married to Bo) Aliso Viejo, CA, Janie Lunn, New Orleans, LA, Sara LaDew Logeman (married to Dave), and their daughter Lucy, Atlanta, GA, Thomas LaDew (married to Erin), Cary, NC, with their two precious boys, Anderson and Henry, and Anna Robicheaux Reynolds (married to John) of Lafayette with her children, Aiden, Aubree, Eli, and Chloe. Melanie will be especially missed by her brothers, William Dusang, married to Jody, and Donald Dusang, married to Esther. Melanie's eldest brother, Edward Dusang, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, both predeceased her. Mel loved life, her husband and family. They were her rewards in life and came first over everything. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved giving. Every year the entire (23+) of her gang got matching pajamas on Christmas Eve and they weren't going to get away without a pajama party each year. Her working career began as a legal secretary for 13 years, beginning in Houma, New Orleans, El Dorado, AR, and here in Lafayette. Then in 1979, she found her love for work as a Realtor with Van Eaton & Romero and was an active Top Producer, meeting and greeting so many people from all over the world and helping them find their dream homes here in our little piece of Heaven (Lafayette). She retired after a 40-year love affair with her work. She worked hard and played hard. Dancing, painting and art classes, gardening and travel were her favorite hobbies. For years she served her community. She was on the Board of the Boys & Girls Club (Granberry Unit), Board Member of Outpatient Services for Our Lady of Lourdes, Member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Real Estate Association of Acadiana, serving on several committees. She headed up a corporate Food Net drive for many years that raised thousands of dollars for the local food pantry. She was a Board Member of the first Fernewood HOA which was instrumental in building the Subdivision five acre park, completed during her five-year term. For years she and her family made "Christmas goodie bags" with socks, gloves, canned good, essentials and treats which were delivered to the St. Joseph Shelter for Men to help bring a little cheer to the men's lives. She and Rod traveled throughout the United States, Canada and even took a few trips to Europe. Melanie would like to be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mom and step-mom. She was "Nannie" to all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was good and kind to all of her wonderful friends, who she considered her chosen family. A service celebrating Melanie's life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 Live Oak Drive, Lafayette, LA, on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Noon. The family will receive guests at the church from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Reverend John Cannon, Senior Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will officiate the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Monty Lunn, Michael LaDew, John Whiting, Carl Robicheaux, Thomas LaDew, Harrison Touby, and Christopher Whiting. The Lunn family is especially grateful to Dr. Gene Brierre and his wonderful staff, as well as Melanie's caregivers, Maria Mayeux, Torie Harmon, Jasmine Griffin, and Jackie Weaver. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that donations be made to
MD Anderson Cancer Center Cancer Research Center. View the obituary and guestbook online at
