Floyd Billings

Floyd Contrail Billings, 82, of Drummonds, passed away on Thursday, July 31st. He served his country in the National Guard. Floyd was blessed with his family. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Jennie Billings, two children, Shannon Billings (Ashley) and Erric Billings; two granddaughters, Alexis and Sadie Billings, and a brother, David Billings. He was preceded in death by a son, William "Bubba" Billings; his parents, Douglas Billings, Nora Phelps; his stepparents, Raymond Phelps and Autumn Billings; two sisters and a brother. Floyd started working at the early age of 12 and worked in his last days here on earth. He loved to work and was a provider for his family working multiple jobs for most of his life. He was the biggest supporter of his kids' and grandkids' sports and activities. From the sidelines to the bleachers, he never missed a chance to cheer them on. Their biggest fan, ALWAYS. Floyd was an ambitious and courageous man. He had a way of accomplishing whatever he set his mind to – it was just who he was. He took flying lessons which included solo flying and night flying. After completing and contemplating purchasing a plane, he ended his pursuit to once again put his family first. He wanted to be able to provide for his family as that was his first priority. He will be missed by all who knew him. His family will be blessed by wonderful memories of a loving husband, a devoted dad, and a proud Pop. He found his strength during his illness from worshiping at Poplar Grove Assembly of God, the care he received from "his girls" at West Cancer Clinic, Dr. Robert Johnson, the rest of the staff at the clinic, and his transfusion team at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Covington. Visitation will be Monday, August 4th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with service on Tuesday, August 5 at 11 a.m., all at Covington Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Drummonds. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
