Gerald Sellers Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald Keith Sellers. Gerald was called to his eternal home in glory on July 1, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous and hard-fought battle against brain cancer. He was born on December 31, 1974, in Hattiesburg, MS to Harold Keith Sellers and Elizabeth Jane Sellers.
Gerald was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on earth was marked by love, compassion, and his unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. He will forever be remembered for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
After graduating from Covington High School in Louisiana, Gerald joined the United States Marine Corp with every intention of making the Corp his career. However, God had a different plan for Gerald's life. Shortly after enlisting, Gerald suffered a heat stroke and received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp. Gerald next attended Mississippi State University where he received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, was a member of the Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, and met his future wife. Gerald worked as a landscape architect in the Washington, D.C. area before moving to Dublin, GA followed by opening his own landscape design and construction company in Corinth, MS. In 2018 he moved his family to Hernando, MS and later took a job with the University of Memphis in their facilities management department. At the time of his diagnosis, Gerald had just received a promotion to Campus Landscape Manager for the University of Memphis.
Outside of work, Gerald loved spending time with his wife and daughter. He enjoyed camping, hiking, or just spending quiet days at home with them. He was a dedicated American Heritage Girls Troop leader and enjoyed teaching badges and planning campouts and summer camps for the girls. He also faithfully served on the jail ministry team at Longview Point Baptist Church and tried to take every opportunity he could to help those in and around the ministry.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shannon, their daughter Lorelai, his father Keith Sellers, his mother Libby Sellers, his sister Beth Slay and brother-in-law Robert Slay, his brother Mike Sellers and sister-in-law Brittany Rouse. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were all touched by his sweet spirit and gentle heart.
Gerald's kindness, generosity, faith in God, and steadfast love for his family will never be forgotten.
