Larry Dwayne Sammons

Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven Larry D. Sammons, longtime Brighton, TN resident, beloved father, veteran, and adventurer, 77, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, in his bed, surrounded by family. A visitation will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road East Southaven, MS 38672). Tim Sammons will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements. Born with a sense of duty and love for his country, Larry proudly trained as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army. His time in the military left a lasting impact on him, giving him an appreciation for life and a strong sense of perspective. He was especially proud that four of his children and a grandson chose to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard, continuing the tradition of service. He found joy in staying active in the lives of his eight children, through chaperoning white-water rafting and camping trips, transporting to sports events and activities, always showing up to show his support. His fun-loving nature made him someone the kids, and their friends, could count on. Larry had a passion for adventure, whether it was exploring the great outdoors on camping trips or diving into the past as a devoted Civil War history buff and collector. His enthusiasm for stories-both lived and learned-made him an engaging storyteller and an irreplaceable presence around any campfire. Above all, Larry will be remembered for his laughter and his boundless dedication to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, love and fun. Mr. Sammons is survived by his eight children, Derek R. Sammons of Orlando, FL, Sean (Jennifer) Sammons of Conway, AR, Stacey Robinson, Michelle (Jeffery) Poulin, Tim (Maria) Sammons, Selena (Jeff) Deverell, and Ian (Manisha) Sammons, all off Hernando, MS, and Teresa (Vincent) Chernushin of Alpharetta, GA; his 28 grandchildren; many friends and extended relatives.
