Alice Nesslage Obituary
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home in Anchorage.
Her family wrote: "Alice Hobson was born Oct. 19, 1936, near Chitina, Territory of the future great state Alaska and raised in Valdez and Palmer (and she also could see Russia from her house). As a young adult, she moved to Oakland, Calif., where she worked as a waitress and met her future husband, Jack Nesslage.
"Jack used to visit the restaurant where Alice worked every day and fell in love. Shortly after they married, they started their family in Oakland and eventually moved to Santa Clara, Calif. Alice, Jack and family moved up to Alaska during the second "Gold Rush," the building of the trans-Alaska pipeline, which brought great fortunes to the Nesslage family (for a short time). Alice will be joined with her husband, Jack Nesslage, in the springtime on Fort Richardson.
"Her patience and kindness to her children and grandchildren will always be remembered lovingly. Her smile warmed all who knew her."
She is survived by her sons, Max Nesslage and his daughter, Courtney Nesslage, and Jason and Meg Nesslage and their daughters Megan, Julia, Hannah and Maddie; her daughters, Tracy Parent; and Davi and Michael Bateman with sons Tyler and Joshua; and great-grandson Jacob.

What a beautiful picture. I remember when my brother Jack brought her home to introduce her to the family. He called and asked us to meet them at our mother's place. She was so tiny, with me towering over her at 5'8" but as sweet as could be and they were very much in love with each other. Alice with her beautiful smile and soft voice. We were separated by many miles, with all of us living so far apart but Alice was our sister and will remain in our hearts. Much love to all my nieces and nephews. Aunt Kathy

You know how sorry I am. I'm also sorry I never had the honor of meeting your mom. She's left behind a wonderful legacy in you and your family. My condolences to all of you -- and many hugs and kisses to you.

Dear Family,
We did not know your beloved Alice but read her obituary at the prompting of our neighbor. The comment about "seeing Russia from here," brought huge smiles to our faces. I imagine Alice would have loved it too. Our condolences to each of you for your loss.
